Laurel Heights, San Francisco, neighbors sue to stop massive SF housing project

https://www.sfchronicle.com/local-politics/article/Laurel-Heights-neighbors-sue-to-stop-massive-SF-14956540.php

I'm... I'm just done at this point. I'm done. I don't care. I don't care what this will do to your "quiet neighborhood". I don't care. Bay Area homeowners have been blackmailing everyone else in the city for long enough.

A group of Laurel Heights residents has filed a lawsuit against a massive development project that would revamp the UCSF Laurel Heights campus into a 744-unit housing and retail complex.

The case, filed last week in San Francisco Superior Court by the Laurel Heights Improvement Association of San Francisco, argues that the city failed to comply with the California Environmental Quality Act in approving the project at 3333 California St.

According to the lawsuit, the development at the 11-acre site would cause “needless significant environmental impacts” to the area. It also takes issue with plans to renovate the existing complex at the site.

The project — which was unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors and San Francisco Planning Commission — includes 186 units of on-site housing for low-income seniors. That would be the largest addition of affordable homes to the area in a decade, said Supervisor Catherine Stefani, whose district includes the site.

Dollar homes even in that area. Now they are a minimum 5 million dollar homes. The rich don’t want regular people to live so close by, this site was an old hospital. It will be interesting how this plays out. The current mayor wants to keep up on the gooid side of the billionaires in that neighborhood.

I brought my own home in the city in 1993, the same time the apartment building I lived in was for sell 9 units sold for $898,000 I begged my parents and boss to consider buying it. We would have all been multi millionaires if we brought it. I didn’t have $100,000 at the time for the down payment the guy who brought it had pooled that money with some friends.

Northern California needs more housing, it's becoming unlivable. The rich don't want more housing because it hurts property value growth.
