Trump's Evangelicals: what they are thinking?

This New Yorker article has some interesting analysis which really concludes that they aren’t all that religious.

More of a white Christian ‘merika [email protected] yeah! crowd.
Afraid of immigration and minorities.
They like the kick ass style - screw the libs style that Trump has. Not really that religious.

If we are thinking his followers will turn on him due to his immoral behavior - well it seems unlikely to happen until the very end.

On edit: You might want to compare it to your winning football coach: You’re annoyed that he’s overweight got caught doing drugs. sleeps around, yells at the kids professionally, but dammit he’s got your team on a winning streak and headed to the playoffs and you’ll put up with that.

1. I've always thought this. You can't be a real Christian and support his policies.

These people view 'Christian' as nothing more than a sports team.

The thing is, true Christianity has no teams. You gotta love everyone.

8. Was listening to podcast of Chris Farley's brother, Kevin.

Went on and on about god this, god that.

I wanted to ask him how can he say that and be a republican.

2. Interesting.

"The true motivator for Christian nationalists is not actually their religious beliefs but the preservation of a certain kind of social order, one that is threatened by racial minorities, immigrants, and Muslims." If that's the case, pointing out their hypocrisy - their political positions and support for Trump vs. the actual teachings of Jesus - won't have any impact, because they care more about their social order than they do about their faith. Evidently they don't really care much about Jesus.

5. The 7 Mountains of Influence mandate, explains some of their thinking,

warped as it is, also Netflix's the Family. I honestly don't think deep down most of them give a crap about God, this is about power and infuence.

6. They aren't thinking. They've decided to let made for tv preachers

and Fox News do their thinking for them and they just follow along like sheep.

9. What reich-wing Christians fail to realize is that once their

coach's tenure ends, the stench he leaves behind will make it extremely difficult for them to attract new recruits.

They're mortgaging their future (which wasn't looking all that great even before Gump) for a few victories today.

11. They let TV and AM radio do their thinking for them.

Why read and think for yourself when you can 3 hours of Sean Hannity a day and listen to 4 hours of Rush Limbaugh and have thrm do your thinking for you?
