How long should Speaker Pelosi hold up the Articles from the Senate?

No doubt, she would be constantly criticized by the Republicans, as she is already. Should she turn over the Articles as soon as they return from Christmas break?

Or should she continue to hold them back until she is assured of a fair trial in the Senate? Would the constant attacks hurt Pelosi and the Democrats? Or would it backfire on the Republicans because a huge majority actually support witnesses coming forth?

In my opinion, the attacks might hurt the Democrats in the short run, but in the long run (3 or 4 months) it will be a huge positive for Pelosi and the Democrats. They would need to take a stand and stick with it, for this to happen.

Nobody knows where Nancy stands on this at the moment. Many believe she will submit the Articles soon after they return. But, in my opinion, it will not harm the Democrats if she holds the Articles so long as McConnell and the Repubs refuse to have a fair trial.

Some have said the Senate could have a trial without the Articles? But, if they did, what would prevent the House from sending over the Articles as soon as they voted to acquit?

The Senate rules say they can't start until the House names the Impeachment Managers. She won't do so until McChinless agrees to a fair trial. Let the assholes twist in the wind until his head blows up.

Meanwhile, all of the Senators are back in their home states. While they're there, one hopes they'll hear a bit from their constituents, read the major newspapers in their states, and get a better idea of what the locals are thinking. One hopes.

In any case, I expect the Articles to be delivered to the Senate not long after Congress returns. Most people didn't even think about the recess, including most news media talkers. It was a given that the Articles of Impeachment would not be delivered to the Senate before the holiday recess.

Once everyone is back in DC, I'm certain they will be delivered in due course to Moscow Mitch and his merry band of miscreants.

The delay was automatic and built into the timing of the impeachment vote. That the media did not recognize that is just one more piece of evidence that they are operating in the dark.

Silliness. This delay could have been predicted by anyone.

Congress will probably deliver the Articles to the Senate as soon as they return from recess. He was impeached on Wednesday, Congress recessed on Friday. It was possible that they would wait until after the recess to deliver the Articles.

...until a fair trial is assured.
Let's not forget Nancy Pelosi held tight on resisting calls to impeach in the first place. She is a very serious and talented leader who will not play fast and loose with something as important as the impeachment of a president just because others do not have her judiciousness and patience. This isn't a show.
We stood virtually no chance of proper impeachment proceedings in the Senate until Madame Speaker did as she did. Already a few Republicans have signaled support to allow witnesses and evidence.

Dog him with it every day on the campaign trail. If it looks like it's going to wrap up before the election, impeach him again! (There will surely be something else to impeach him for by then.) Keep MoscowMitch in Washington conducting trials for the entire campaign season. Let these mofo's twist in the wind with it for weeks!

Willl Romney, Gardner, Murkowski, and Collins stand up to McConnell? I hope so. Romney would have support from home state Utah. Murkowski could maintain her independent status with Alaskans. Collins, Gardner, (along wirh McSally, Ernst, and Tillis would probably join the revolt since their fealty to Trump puts them in serious jeopardy back home.

Pelosi is playing this right. She has the high ground right now. Polling favors conviction. Let the trial drag on through election season if POTUS insists on blocking witnesses. SCOTUS would likely express the case and hopefully force Barr, Pompeo, Guliani, and others to testify. While those three would likely perjure themselves, documentary evidence would sink his fantasy of innocence.

A resignation for pardons might be possible. New York State could still go after The Trump Organization for financial crimes.

In any case, I think his position is much weaker while Pelosi controls the conditions for trial. Stalemate would likely reduce the chances of the GOP holding the Senate. This, above all, puts Mitch on a box.

agree to the Democrats demands immediately. Why ? Because they can use their well worn tactics of attacking anyone who isn't on their side, plus the Republican Senators are gutless and will vote for Trump regardless. Once that's done, Trump can spend the rest of the year preaching that he was cleared and innocent. Nothing is going to change republican voters, but he can spend the rest of the time trying to win back the independent voters in key states. He's actually hurting himself by blocking witnesses.

One of those concessions - Republicans who have already made statements to the effect of "We don't need a trial, I'm already voting to acquit" like Moscow Mitch and Lindsey Graham should be made to recuse themselves.
