Tom Steyer If We Had Term Limits We Wouldn't Have Nancy Pelosi - Bad Idea

The problem is money destroying our democracy, not people who want to spend a lifetime serving constituents.

It's who they work for, not how long they serve Mr. Steyer.

Many of my friends in congress have served multiple terms, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

1. There are term limits...

... 2, 4, 6 years. They are fine... but there should not be a limit to the number of terms. People need to vote more. What money wants is fewer voters... and limiting the number of terms gives money more power and makes government weaker and more susceptible to... money.

4. If the presidency wasn't term limited, we would be President Obama's third term.

I think he would have ran for a third term, then stepped aside for someone else.

6. Yes. We kept FDR for 4 terms because he did a good job with the GD and WW2.

Elections are the vehicle for term limits.

9. Exactly

"I can't be trusted to vote intelligently, so please take my choices away from me. And while you're at it, take away everyone else's choices, too."

14. Term limits have been pushed by republicans to limit democrats like Speaker Pelosi.

I can't believe that a democratic politician is mouthing that crap.

7. "Stop me before I kill again" laws

I've never understood the appeal of term limits. It's like you can't trust yourself not to vote for someone again and again so you want a law to prevent you from doing that. Hell, half the time, the only thing that keeps a politician from completely selling us out is the fear that they will not be re-elected. It's basically asking the government to take away our power.

13. It's not "I don't trust myself"

It's the attitude of "my guy is great but those assholes in the next district over can be trusted to do it my way."

8. Term limits for legislators is a dumb idea.

It would lead to a huge Congressional brain drain. I prefer having long serving members around to teach the new members how things work and how to write legislation.

12. Term limits would cost us experience and statesmanship.

Just look at the bumpkins and loud mouthed yahoos at the hearings last week. We would have more of that with term limits.

We need to get the dirty money out of politics and ban all pols from lobbying once they leave office.
