Traitors All

The most despicable, scandalous – and obvious thing that has come out of the impeachment process is that the Republicans KNOW Trump is guilty of obstructing justice, obstructing Congress, attempting to bribe a foreign leader for personal gain – and covering up the fact that he did so.

The Republicans have KNOWN all along that Trump’s actions, statements and policies are detrimental to our welfare as a nation, and have put our national security and our standing in the global community at risk – and in response, they have doubled-down on his lies, and have often lied themselves in order to defend what they KNOW to be indefensible.

The Republicans KNOW that the witnesses who have testified did so at their own peril, risked threats to their careers and their personal safety, and have absolutely no motive to lie, or fabricate anything they testified to.

The Republicans also KNOW that their “pResident” has refused to allow those who have firsthand knowledge of events to testify, and has refused to produce the documents at the very heart of the investigations into his crimes.

The Republicans KNOW that if their “pResident” had or knew of any exculpatory evidence that would exonerate him, or even suggest that his wrongdoing was somehow less than criminal, he would not stand in the way of that evidence being produced.

The Republicans KNOW they are protecting a “pResident” who is blatantly corrupt, and whose corruption has been supported and enabled by their own actions. They KNOW that members of their own party have been complicit in Trump’s crimes, and have put his (and their own) political ambitions above the well-being of our nation and its citizens.

The Republicans KNOW that by standing up for their “pResident”, they are standing up for the man who has lied thousands of times, the man who has enriched himself while in office at the taxpayers’ expense, the man who stood on a stage in Helsinki and declared that Putin’s ‘word for it’ should be taken over the overwhelming evidence gathered by our intelligence agencies with respect to Russia’s attack on the 2016 election.

The Republicans have KNOWN since before Trump was inaugurated that his contacts with Russian operatives were ‘troubling’ at the very least, and the fact that he and his cohorts persisted in lying about those contacts was cause for actual alarm. And yet KNOWING all of that, the Republicans chose to look the other way, and ignored the obvious threat to our democracy.

Despite the fact that a charge of treason has a legal definition that might not be met in a court of law based on the facts now known, the overwhelming fact remains that the Republicans KNOW that in lying for Trump, in covering up his crimes, and in taking the position that their “pResident” is above the law, they have laid their own guilt – against the American people, the Constitution, and the rule of law – bare.

In my humble opinion, the Republicans who have in the past, and now continue to defend a “pResident” they KNOW to be guilty of crimes against our nation are themselves guilty of treason by aiding and abetting the traitor they put in the Oval Office.

By putting the welfare of their party over the welfare of our country, Republicans have shown their hand – and that hand is nothing less than undeniable proof of their own guilt.

I grew up in the age of Ford. The GOP was the "loyal minority " . I will never forgive the GOP for Trump. They have decided to pursue party and power over any real ideological goal, right or wrong. They have embraced treason as a political strategy. The Whigs were replaced by the GOP. It's time for the GOP to be replaced by something new. Something loyal to the US of A.

Beautifully written and painfully true.
This is how tyrants are born, not by revolution or civil disobedience, but by insinuation and complicity. By lying and blackmail and intimidation. We are at that point now.
I think we shall prevail over the party that " knows" better.
