Cousin Dupree (1,866 posts)
I wiped the smile off a trumpster's face today.
Shopping at the grocery store. I look over and see a cart with a canvas bag hanging off the side of the cart. It has Trump’s name in big letters on it. No one is near the cart. So I walk over and I’m going to take the bag and hide it or throw it on the floor. But it’s attached to the cart. So I turn it over to the blank side and as I’m doing this the cart’s owner walks over with a big smile and says,
“You like my bag?” And I said, “Not at all. I find it offensive. I turned it over so I don’t have to look at that”. Smile gone. Felt so good!

11. If you'd had a canvas bag with a Dem symbol or pic on it on your shopping cart
and you stepped away for a minute to look for something and then came back to find someone touching it, turning it over or maybe trying to take it, and they told you they were just turning it over so they wouldn't have to look at it, would it bother you? It would bother the hell out of me. Not cool, no matter what.

who wasn't talking to you or harming you in any way by trying to take or interfere with her personal property, just because you didn't like the political message on her shopping bag?
Not cool at all. And even if for some reason you actually think that's civilized conduct, if you keep doing that kind of thing you might find yourself in more trouble than you bargained for. Just leave other people's stuff alone. |

103. Nobody "beat him to death," FFS. He was justly criticized for first attempting to take
someone else's property, and then when caught in the act turned it around and told the owner he was "offended" by it - and then bragged about it. It's never OK to try to take or interfere with someone else's belongings no matter how offended you are by their message. I'd be royally pissed off if someone did that with my stuff, and the OP is lucky the woman didn't call the store manager or make some kind of scene. Yes, Trump is offensive and people who support him must have a screw loose. But we can't very well be assuming a position of moral superiority because we detest Trump while at the same time trying to steal other people's belongings.

8. I don't know, man. I mean, I get how hard it is to see the worship.
But I don’t think being aggressive toward someone who isn’t bothering you is a good thing.
It does make me think, though. I saw something this morning about people (in this case Florida) flying 45’s flags all over, with the question has this ever happened with another president. And I think it’s clear it hasn’t. I do wonder if we don’t sell ourselves short by not having our own bags and shirts and flags supporting Democratic candidates. I think we fear people being aggressive toward us, but I think it’s a good idea to do it and just smile and don’t be aggressive back. I do think we need to be centered and calm in our convictions but maybe a few shirts and hats wouldn’t hurt. 🤷🏼♀️ |

i don’t know that I’d be bragging about this. You come off like a jerk in this story. The woman is slowly paying for billions in tax cuts for the wealthy through austerity due to the GOP's tax bill and she also paid a sizable percentage more for that damned bag for an import tariff on Chinese products.

108. How the Nazis rose to power
Was a far more complicated situation than "good manners"
It does, in a very small way, show how average Germans may have self-justified their own actions. To themselves they were not evil oppressors. "Those" people were offensive and it was their own fault their property was vandalized, stolen or destroyed. It's just property, not like they are actually hurting anyone... Situational ethics is a good way to overcome sleepless nights of self reflection. |

107. It could have been a very big deal if the owner of the bag had called the store manager,
which is what I'd have done. Whether it's a cheap canvas shopping bag or a $3,000 Gucci handbag doesn't matter; you don't get to mess with other people's stuff. Period. The OP was about to do something that was not only inappropriate but was actually a crime (misdemeanor theft); they didn't take the bag only because the owner turned up. I can't think why this action is being defended, because there really isn't any defense. "I hate Trump and his supporters must be assholes so I'm justified in taking their stuff that has Trump's name on it" won't get you very far if you get in trouble for it.

The store manager wasn't called; nothing happened except he said something snarky to the woman. But if you read down this thread you would think he stole someone's grandmother's eyeballs.
It is not just one person; it is the fact that the entire forum seems to have jumped on him. I've had that happen to me here and it is very upsetting. I don't think it warranted. That's all. It's not a matter of what he did was right or wrong. It is the mob mentality that is upsetting to me. |

It's a message board. The OP posted something that he/she seemed to be proud of, and probably expected to be praised for it. The fact that the comments were mostly the opposite reflects what seems to be a majority opinion that it wasn't so cool. If people don't want reactions to their posts, they shouldn't post.

It could be considered theft or vandalism, which can add up to a misdemeanor or a felony charge. Stores have surveillance camera's and security these days. Do not touch my personal shit. For any reason. Invasion of my (her) right to be left alone.
I just hope you'll give your behavior a bit of retrospect. Just my two cents. |

155. I think you made it up because it's dripping with 'cool story bro'.
In the off chance you didn't make it up, it was a reckless, unproductive, self-destructive, cringe-worthy thing to do, and I hope you never do it again.
I didn't audit the pronoun use across the entire thread, but in case it's not clear, 'cool story bro' is a gender-neutral dismissal these days. |

156. Because your story is patently false on its face.
I assumed you were a woman, for what it’s worth.

153. I prefer a much more subtle approach
Dropping a box of extra-large, ribbed condoms (or a tube of K-Y jelly) into the basket, for instance. Let her/him explain to the check-out clerk why this item was NOT on the shopping list (and is therefore unsuitable in their current relationship). Sure, it may take some stealth in a big store — especially if you follow them to the check-out line — but the payoff can be sublime.
If confronted, I’d beg pardon: “I thought this was my buggy! Are you sure you don’t want this?” Again, an oh-so-subtle jab at someone’s personal relationships. Yes, I know: subtlety is lost on most MAGAts. But, it could leave the recipient perplexed, perhaps even questioning their life choices. If nothing else, it does vividly illustrate the differences between them and us. |
