NEW ORLEANS ó Ten people have been shot after gunfire erupted on Canal Street early Sunday morning, New Orleans police spokesman Aaron Looney says.

The shooting happened around 3:25 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, in the 700 block of Canal Street between Bourbon and Royal Streets.

NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said two people are in critical condition. The victims were taken to University Medical Center and Tulane hospital.

Police say one person has been detained, but they are not a suspect in the case.

3. Nothing good happens after 2 AM pretty much everywhere.

I make a point of being sound asleep in my own bed at that time of the morning.

6. Was just there two weeks ago.

Stayed out late too.

The level of economic distress in New Orleans is extremely high, and I don't think as a whole country, we're serious about solutions.

7. Lord, that McDonald's is a hotbed of crazy. Not in the Quarter btw.

Itís on Canal at one end of the Quarter but not in it by any means. Itís always been where drugs and gang members are rampant.

I hate that NO is more violent than ever but kids, it has always been full of crime and vice. Mostly youíre fine but there are places you donít want to be at 3 am.

And I love it like a mother.

9. "Gunfire erupted". WTF

If this were a white suburb there would be no talk of "gunfire erupting" like it was some tectonic force. Nobody's going to ask if the shooters here were insane because nobody will even care about the backstory.
