General Discussion

yes it was mostly biographical, but she made real points about equal pay and student loans.
Romney was quite a bit more general.
Maybe he accidentally read his wife's speech again.

(8,492 posts)...that thought it was just you. She made both Romneys look like they were speaking at a cocktail party to some of their 'closest' (richest) friends. Our First Lady spoke to us...the people. No condescending 'OMG!!! I LOVE you women!'

But yeah, I agree with you and the OP. It really was something amazing to behold. I did miss the latter end of it so I'm rewatching the entire thing now, it's wonderful.

(11,075 posts)It doesn't matter if it's personal or policy - everything about the Romneys seems fake. It's as if they don't actually believe anything or even feel anything, they just try to mimic what they think emotion is supposed to look like. I'm not trying to be snarky ... they really do seem to be completely detached from everything they say.
On the other hand ... Michelle Obama is about as real as it gets!

(36,974 posts)with out actually saying that that was what she was doing
she mentioned equal pay (Ryan voted against Lilly Ledbetter bill) , a woman's right of choice regarding her own body (a hit on Romney/Ryan/Akin/GOPers), mentioned that it is not how much money you make but what you do, talked about we don't do anything all by ourselves (hit back at the "we built it" meme), etc. - many more.
The speech was very skillfully written and if one looked for the hits against Romney/Ryan there where a lot of them and they stood out like a sore thumb
