in the early 80's. Now, I want to make it crystal clear that I LOVED living there, and never completely forgave my husband for the move to Phoenix, AZ. But we used to laugh when people there would talk about diversity, thinking it simply meant every possible shade of blonde hair known.

I've been back somewhat recently, and know that that city is vastly more diverse that it had ever dreamed of being thirty years ago.

not all that smart But what can we expect from a mainstream pundit? I think in the mentioned case he was trying to make a point about the fact that the Repukes have a wide array of elected officials because they win local GOvernor races but it came out very AWKWARDLY and I don't think he is smart enough to realize that.

(Long story short "yeah - he's an idiot!&quot

Men, women, young, old, hispanic, asian, LBGT, rich, poor, middle class, managers, worker bees. That's who I saw, just to name a few.

What did Chuck want? The Republicans tried to come across as a diverse group and then got up there and all talked like the plutocrats they are. Most of the ones with adversity were talking about in the PAST...their grandparents or parents. Many, like Ryan are anything except middle class. They have made theirs and they'll be damned if they do anything to help the ones coming along after them.

Tonight we heard about Lilly Ledbetter and Stacey Lihn who touched us all talking about her little girl's struggle with heart problems and their gratitude for having insurance coverage for her thanks to ObamaCare. And yes, Obamacare is no longer the dirty word the Republicans have tried to make it! We saw the Mayor of San Antonio tell his compelling story of overcoming adversity and the story of the sacrifices his mother and grandmother made. Then the first lady made us all proud telling us about her amazing husband and his experience of being the president for almost 4 years. It should have made all of us proud! Their story is one that is the American success story and we should applaud that.

Chuck needs to get his eyes checked. He just wasn't looking around. Had his face in his iPad, I guess......

Of course the toadmeister knows that Dems are way more diverse overall. What he was trying to say (I think) was that so far, the Dems have showcased minority speakers with less political power and clout. Castro and Booker are mayors and in San Antonio, the mayor is actually holds a largely ceremonial position. Patrick and Martinez cancel each other out, but Rubio is a senator, that guy from Puerto Rico is a governor, and Rice held high end cabinet positions. If you run the numbers, it seems you've seen more power on the republican side.

Then again, the Dems have a black president, which trumps everything I just mentioned.

"An old, old wooden ship that was used during the civil war era to deliver large supplies of puréed walnuts from the South to the North. The walnuts were used as a replacement for toilet paper, due to the wartime shortage. Despite the volitile relationship between the two countries at the time, the North figured that it was more important to have a clean ass than to place an embargo on the South's nut shipments. The South figured,"Hell, we need the money"."

Wow, must have been one hell of a shortage of squeezable Charmin for folks to have wanted to use squished walnuts instead!
