Had an argument with a Trumpeter today. I saw

an acquaintance of mine at the mall. They had the TV where he was sitting tuned to CNN. He says all this is just Democrats trying to undue the election. He asks me if I have any investments. He says the economy was in the tank when Obama left office.. That was it I told him he didn't know what he was talking about. When Obama took office unemployment nearly 10% and the Dow was under 7000. When Obama left the unemployment was 4.6% and the Dow was almost 19000 over 270% increase. He says I was full of shit. I said you got your phone right there ask Google. He says you don't know what you are talking about. I ended it there and told him to get his head out of Fox News for a while and watch the real news and walked away. Even if you give them facts and dare them to check they just refuse to listen. Just like Lindsey refuses to look at the evidence. I have decided to just not get involved in any more conversations with him.

1. Many seem to think trump just tells crazy lies. However, the analogy is to old

tent revival preachers, who had an ear for what 'works'. Grab what they remember as a phrase from the bible, and wing and wing it.

the conversation to politics. I know now to not even engage him in conversation from now on.

I had no idea they had TVs in malls.

Why ever for?

6. Well there is a guy who sells cable and satellite

that put several of them in the mall. The one at the food court used to be tuned to Fox but enough people complained so he carries CNN now. He has one on a local channel one on ESPN and one on the western channel and one on the game channel.

4. It's a cop out to claim the motive of Democrats is all about undoing the 2016 election

They(Trump supporters) just say that because they're afraid to consider the real motives of oversight, of making Trump answer for his corruption, and of proving that no one is above the law.

Do they think elections only count when Republicans win?

24. Its a Republican talking point. Fox News watchers will hear this line repeated dozens

of times a day. They believe it, then they go out and parrot it.

They refuse to acknowledge that Trump has been building on an economy that was growing thanks to Obama. You really can't talk to them.

In the meantime, unemployment was plummeting.

I don't know if all Trumpists are retired or self-employed or what, but it wasn't even close to reality if you were in the Construction Industry.

13. I recommend everyone read this Wonkette blog post:

https://www.wonkette.com/8chan-and-qanon-come-back-just-in-time-to-make-thanksgiving-awkward-af

The subject of the post is icky but the message from the writer, Robyn Pennacchia, has provided a constructive way to deal with the lunatics among us:

...We talk about a lot of things being the result of technology and the subsequent move away from regular human contact and socialization, but this truly is the worst of the worst. While there were certainly conspiracy theorists prior to the internet and social media, it was never this bad outside of actual cults. Part of the reason for that is that this nonsense is a real tough act to take on the road and really only begins to make sense to people once they are pretty isolated from regular human contact. Because if you start going around saying crazy things like "My numerology website proves that there is gonna be a false flag tomorrow at a football game," people will tell you no, and then when there isn't a false flag at the football game, they will say, "Hey Bob, look what didn't happen." Socialization is what tempers this kind of radicalization and forces people to stay in touch with reality.

The fact that QAnon is back is, no doubt, going to make for more than a few awkward Thanksgivings, with Aunt Barbara sitting around looking for secret messages in The National Dog Show. But if you have the wherewithal to do so, try to get them to talk about something else, anything else. It's not your job to try to deprogram them and doing so will probably just make them dig their heels in more, but you can make them remember what normal, regular, human interaction and socialization is like — because at this point, it's the only chance they've got left.

30. Those sentences in bold print are so true.

We all need to remember them, especially "It's not your job to try to deprogram them".

It's a cult. Let them stay with their own kind. If they bring up politics, don't bite. Walk away. Change the subject. Go talk to someone who's sane.

15. There is no talking to these ? cult members

have their lives gotten any better, no worse. They are being fed by lies that's psychological warfare. Why do people vote against their own best interests. Their daily lives mean nothing to these thugs. It's all about $$$$$$$$$$$ and power.

So of course, they put the blame on Democrats, because we get things done.

Fuck them.

But I give you a lot of credit for trying.

19. Or, even better yet, get called disrespectful and hateful...

...when you point out the truth. The majority of my family are citizens of MAGA Nation and are constantly posting “facts” on Facebook, and many have attacked me as un-American when I point out the lies they purvey. I have stopped engaging them, and now just passive-aggressively post articles from Snopes, Politifact, etc. as a counter-point.

26. Surveys have demonstrated that FOX News watchers are the most misinformed.

Even the people who watch no news at all are much better informed than the FOX News groupies. NPR viewers are the best informed, followed by network news, CNN and MSNBC, but only FOX News makes its viewers dumber than people who live in a cave.

It's abundantly evident Rupert Murdoch has been extremely successful in deeply dividing this country by constantly misinforming its viewers and coarsening our political discourse.

28. +1, this level of misinformation is dangerous. The fairness doctrine should be reinstated so a ...

... political party can't have an unannounced media arm.

If FAUX News wants to tie itself to the KGOP then they should have to announce it.

31. IMO part of why they continue to watch faux news is to keep up with talking points so they sound

“informed” (in addition to getting their baser cognitive impulses stroked, of course).

This guy was quick to parrot their party line about us wanting to undo the election. It’s a powerful party line because they’ve so caricatured us as being as evilly partisan as they are that this seems believable, even though it’s patently false. We don’t have a direct talking point counterpoint for this except to look at the facts. All these folks need is one barely plausible, but coherent, line of argument that they can fend off “the elites” with.
