Veterans group: Trump Jr. can join the military if he 'really wants to understand what sacrifice is

Paul Rieckhoff, the founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, on Monday criticized the Trump family for a "tone-deafness" about what it means to serve in the military.

Rieckhoff was asked about a passage in Donald Trump Jr.'s new book in which he said a visit to the Arlington National Cemetery prompted him to reflect on the “sacrifices” his family made so that his father could become president.

I mean, every week there’s something new like this. There’s a tone-deafness from the president and from his family around what it means to serve,” Rieckhoff said in an interview with CNN.

“Don Jr. is of age. If he really wants to understand what sacrifice is all about, he can join the military,” he continued. “You know, folks like Sean Spicer and others have done it. Reince Priebus just joined the military.”

2. "There's a tone-deafness from the president and from his family"

No, it isn't that they're tone deaf. They actively and repeatedly look down on anyone in the military. They have no respect for military personnel. Donald Trump ripped off charitable contributions to veterans to pay his campaign's bills. (In fairness, not paying the Chinese manufacturers of his cheap MAGA hats would be more dangerous than tap-dancing in a mine field.) From the podium at his party's nominating convention, Trump bad-mouthed a Gold Star family, and when he was called on it, repeated his criticisms of the family and its sacrifice.

This isn't a one-off. This isn't just a mush-mouthed malaprop. Trump and his family have shown us what they think of military personnel and veterans. And he has the full support of his party. Quit making excuses for him just because he's a conservative Republican.

3. No, bone spurs are not hereditary

On the other hand, bone-headedness is clearly genetic in the Trump clan.
