I don't think Bloomberg will run

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the General Discussion forum).

but he will destroy what's left of the Con by putting the idea out there.
The Con can't fight Bloomberg's money or his New York mouth.

1. he could do a lot of damage to dems if he does run

10. Not really

I actually like him a bit, but he has no constituency in a dem primary at this point.

As long as he is not running as an Indy, its a lot of hyperventilating from spazzy dems and the programmed "Bad news for dems" media ...

11. he's good on social issues that don't have to do with money

he's awful regarding the wealth gap. He chased low income people out of NYC.

If he's in the primary he will use billions to beat up on dems. Bad news.

28. Meh

Until he goes Indy, his profile has been pretty clear that he knows the Rs and 45 in particular are a complete menace, and while he breaks right on a number of issues, he rarely goes out of his way to negatively cast democrats.

I would be surprised if he would "use billions to beat up on dems" in a primary challenge where he will be lucky to get 5% of the vote. It is more likely he will come off more like Steyer trying to make his case.

The guy is not a moron - beating up on dems will WEAKEN his candidacy in the democratic primary.

Again, the only threat he poses if he goes Indy.

27. No, because he doesn't have a solid constituency.

Biden's blue-collar midwesterners won't like him. Buttigieg's white-collar midwesterners won't like him. Warren's and Sanders' progressives won't like him. All he's got is east-coast rich people. That's not enough to make a dent in anybody's popularity.

2. He's a media conglomerate - if he *really* wants to destroy Trump, buy Faux News!

That would be the most effective way to save our democracy, by denying Trump his only life ring.

21. 4% with -0- effort is good. Look at Steyer who has been running ads featuring himself

for a couple years and has gotten nothing from it.

4% without trying is good.

He's filing paperwork. That's all. He supports Biden. If he thinks Biden can't win nomination - he wants to be ready.

14. Interesting- I had the same thoughts

I think this possible as well.

I think while there may be a lot of positive things that Bloomberg offers, I donít think he can win the Black vote (his stop and frisk policies for starters) and I personally think the country is tired of Billionaires, even though to the credit of Bloomberg, he is a real Billionaire and businessman who built his business.

I think he wants to stop Trump. I also think he wanted to send a message to Warren and Sanders of what he thinks of their proposed policies.

I think personally more than ever that Biden and Harris are the winning ticket.

22. After Obama, Bloomberg is one of just a handful of humans that can mentally destroy Trump.

He has nothing to lose and he knows he will not win but will have a heck of a good time as Trump descends into madness.

25. How many of Trump's voters or supporters are mainly attracted by his claimed money/acumen?

His claims of being great at running a business may have got Trump his initial publicity and Republicans taking him seriously, but he's not really keeping his acolytes with that now. They like him because he hates the same people they do, "sticks it to the libs", and because they think he wins, and they want to support "the winner".

Bloomberg's money would only make if difference if he actually did run and spend it. He could afford endless ads, until it's drummed into the Trumpists' head that Trump really is an anti-American crook who is only out for himself and whichever foreign authoritarian bids enough to own him.

The New York mouth wouldn't win over Trump supporters. They only put up with Trump's because of the hate that spews out of his. Bloomberg's attitude to guns, and his being Jewish, would actively put off the deplorables.
