GOP said pursuing impeachment would be an electoral disaster for Democrats.

But given the events of yesterday, turning historically Republican areas blue, it seems they might have been off the mark.

1. When have they ever told the truth.

I think the only reason they said that was a misguided effort to prevent it from happening.

13. When are we ever going to stop believing their talking points?

Their propaganda is so effective it even gets dedicated Democrats to believe it.

17. By "on the left" you mean the upper echelon in the party

Who are known more for their moderate/conservative positions. It was they that seemingly agreed with the GOP that it would be bad for Democrats. If Trump had not been so stupid as to release the notes of the transcript indicting him in quid pro quo, I don't know if we'd even be into impeachment now.

"The left" of the party has been shouting for impeachment much earlier. AOC and Elizabeth Warren even called out their own party on it.

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/462484-ocasio-cortez-calls-out-democrats-for-refusing-to-impeach-trump

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) called out Democrats late Saturday for what she called their "refusal” to impeach President Trump.

“At this point, the bigger national scandal isn’t the president’s lawbreaking behavior - it is the Democratic Party’s refusal to impeach him for it,” she tweeted.

The freshman Democrat’s comments came after Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), a Democratic presidential candidate, made similar comments Friday evening, tweeting that “Congress had a duty to begin impeachment” against Trump after former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report and that Congress “is complicit” by having not already done so.

"After the Mueller report, Congress had a duty to begin impeachment," Warren tweeted. "By failing to act, Congress is complicit in Trump's latest attempt to solicit foreign interference to aid him in US elections. Do your constitutional duty and impeach the president."

4. They also had dire warnings about making Nancy Pelosi speaker.

My advice: do exactly the opposite of what their talking heads sagely suggest.

6. Yeah, I think it's just the opposite. If we hadn't done it many Dems would react...

with disgust and maybe stay home or vote third party for us not doing our Constitutional duty to oversee the executive branch plus do our utmost to remove this crooked president.

Then there is the fact that an impeached president has never been re-elected or even run for re-election. IMO with all the negative info that keeps coming out on the orange anus, having that (I) for impeached in front of trump's name will be like a scarlet letter to many, many voters—enough to send him down to defeat and hopefully, to jail,

7. Assuming that impeachment was the reason for the wins could be similarly off the mark.

In Virginia, Dems were running heavily on fighting climate change.

Bloomberg's gun-control group also spent a ton of money in VA.

As the republicans had suggested.

8. I'm sure they meant well

After all, don't the Republicans have a long, unbroken track record of looking out for only the best interests of the Democratic party?

14. they sure spend a lot of wind telling us which candidate to choose

They also try to be very helpful in advising which policies are too far from mainstream to ever work.

Such kind, generous -choke- -cough-

9. Actually, Bevin probably lost by aligning himself too closely...

...with Trump. Beshear talked about Health Care, jobs, and teachers. Bevin just spewed Trump talking points. As the saying goes, all politics is local.

10. All impeachment is not the same!

I'm so tired of all the talk about impeachment helping the party of the president being impeached.

They are clearly extrapolating from the Clinton history. What they do not understand is that people are smart enough to realize that being impeached for lying about consensual sex - with no national security ramifications - is a politically motivated attack. Impeaching a president for extortion of a foreign country to try and win an election, and aid Russia, is far different.

12. tRump

has a multitude of crimes he has committed...tax returns, also war crimes against humanity, Kurds, Migrant families and children, Ukrainians being killed currently by Russians trying to hold back funds so that the Ukrainians can defend themselves people are dying because of this POS, inciting his cult followers to do harm to other Americans. The list goes on and on. He needs to be in prison.

15. Impeaching someone people LIKE would be a disaster. But this is Donald John Trump.

At this point, only a minority of dimwits are actually attracted to his ignorance and hatred. Everyone else is ready to make him shut up.

18. They also said before the midterms last year that resisting Trump would be another disaster.

Turns out, they're the last people anybody on the Democratic side should ever take advice from. Impeach and replace!
