"Public Impeachment Hearings"

Impeachment inquiry

Today, the full House is due to vote on formalizing impeachment proceedings against President Trump. The vote was set up by a key House panel's resolution that could shape how the proceedings go. The House Rules Committee measure allows for public impeachment hearings and the release of deposition transcripts, and it outlines the Judiciary Committee's role in considering potential articles of impeachment. House Republicans offered several amendments to the resolution in hopes some pushback would give them more of a say in impeachment hearings, but all of them failed along party lines. As it stands, key Republican figures remain critical of how the impeachment inquiry has unfolded, while Democrats accuse Republicans of doing anything they can to protect Trump.

Key House panel sends impeachment resolution to the floor ahead of Thursday's vote

(CNN)The House Rules Committee on Wednesday night advanced a resolution to establish procedures for Democrats' impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump ahead of an expected vote on the House floor Thursday.

The resolution, unveiled earlier this week, allows for public impeachment hearings, the release of deposition transcripts and outlines the Judiciary Committee's role in considering potential articles of impeachment. It will be the first vote the full House has taken on the impeachment inquiry since Democratic leaders launched the probe related to an intelligence community whistleblower complaint that raised concerns in Congress about Trump's conversations with Ukraine.

In the Democratic resolution, Republicans would be able to subpoena witnesses only if the Democratic chairman agrees with the request or if a majority of the committee approves of it.

House to vote on impeachment procedures

The vote today is on a resolution that would set rules for the public phase of an inquiry that has begun behind closed doors. Although not a formal vote to open impeachment proceedings, it is all but certain to be seen as a test of approval for the process. Here’s what to expect.

Democrats who long resisted a formal floor vote on the impeachment inquiry are now solidly behind the idea. The turnabout reflects their growing confidence that the public supports their fact-finding mission on President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.

Yesterday: Impeachment investigators summoned John Bolton, the former national security adviser, and two White House lawyers to testify next week. Mr. Bolton, who left the White House in September, was said to have been deeply alarmed about the efforts to pressure Ukraine, but his lawyer said he was “not willing to appear voluntarily.”

1. Subpoena him already!

Damn, they knew this would happen, why futz around? But water under the bridge, send him the subpoena today if possible, if not tomorrow. He is the voice we need to put this away. RW'ers love Bolton and there's not even a whiff of Democratic favor when it comes to him, so he takes away most of their talking points. Of course, I know they will just invent new ones for him, lying is what they are best at, after all. But still, this is so important in the court of public perception!!!

3. Bolton

drumpf would never come and it'd be a waste of time to compel him. Go after the call transcripts instead - that's where the dirt is and also on the Russia calls where PUtin calls the shots and drumpf just says da and where PUtin tells drumpf how he will steal the election for him.

4. I heard last night

that Bolton doesn't want to voluntarily show up, cause he is writing a book and does not want the sales of books decrease, if he shows up in front of a committee and blurts out everything. What a jerk.
