Michele Bachmann: Climate Change Is a Fraud Because 'God Says We Will Never Be Flooded'

Former Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann appeared on Jan Markell’s “Understanding The Times” radio program last weekend, where she urged pastors to start preaching the “truth” from their pulpits that climate change represents no threat to humanity because God said in the Bible, after Noah’s flood, that he would never again destroy the world with water.

Bachmann said that in her capacity as “pastor to the United Nations,” she has met with dozens of ambassadors “and every single one of them talk[s] about climate change.”

“I would encourage pastors to start preaching on this issue of climate change and God’s view of climate change,” Bachmann said. “The very covenant was established by God and Noah. And that covenant was that sin was so gross in the world that God had to bring about judgment, and then he had to bring about salvation, and from there came Abraham. God put a rainbow in the sky as a sign of his covenant and he said very clearly to the entire world, ‘Never again will there be judgment, never again will the world be flooded.'”

“You can take it to the bank, that’s God’s word,” she added. “And what is it these frauds tells us with climate change? That the world’s going to be flooded. Isn’t it interesting they’re saying it’s going to be another catastrophe, it’s flooding, we’re going to be flooded? God says we will never be flooded.”

She has demonstrated weapons-grade stupidity on many occasions; here in Minnesota we can reminisce about - for example - the time during her state senate career when she hid in the shrubbery outside the state capitol to avoid having to talk to gay people.

10. Pastor to the United Nations?

I guess I missed that one back in 2017

Former congresswoman Michele Bachmann says her new ministry to the U.N. is “a vital part of preparing the world for the End Times.”

I can’t tell if this is just some self annointed nut jobs or if they are part of the administration. Either way we can all be proud of her mission

I believe that God is starting a new thing, and because the time is short before Christ comes again to this earth, He is giving everyone one more chance.

There was an attempt in the book of Genesis for all of the nations to come together and to raise a fist against God in pride and arrogance. It was called the Tower of Babel, and God dispersed the people at the Tower of Babel. Never again did all the nations of the earth come together until the League of Nations, under President Woodrow Wilson. That broke up, it didn’t work and then we have World War II and the U.N. was started and it’s been an organization that has had a lot of negative repercussions because it is not under a holy authority of a mighty God and there’s been vain imaginations of a fist again against an almighty God.

[link:https://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2017/08/michele-bachmann-named-pastor-united-nations/|]

Yep, nothing embarrassing about that tripe.

So god said no more flooding ever. But god is pissed and the apocalypse is around the corner. But at least we won’t be flooded

She shouldn’t worry about flooding she should worry about looking up and drowning in the rain.

13. A few years ago Pew found that 30 million adults expected

the world to end any day now, and that most of them were positive about it, some even looking forward to it.

Of course. That'll fix the Democrats for good, with God getting the final vote to fly them all up to heaven and leave us to suffering and death during Armageddon.

Their very belated awareness of the climate crises only confirms what they believe. It's common here in the Bible Belt for people to allude to End Times when discussing problems, as if it's their answer and they won't have to worry about trying to survive fires, floods, drought, killer heat, disease, even famine, sweeping over Georgia.

20. Remembering, we had a lot of Mormons in our California

neighorhood, and their kids who grew up with ours were promised they'd see Jesus's return within their lifetimes. Their church was established to prepare the planet for the Second Coming and was finishing up the job.

Small piece of the "epidemic," but the Republican nominee in 2012 was one of theirs. That's a big part of why I felt sure Romney believed, by the time he became the nominee, that God had chosen him to preside over Armageddon from the WH/Pentagon and over the establishment of his Kingdom at the site Mormons purchased for it near Independence, MO. He held the Cold War belief that Satan's armies were massing in Russia and Iran and promised to ask for an extra $2B for the military that they hadn't requested. Some people around him didn't talk about any of that specifically but said that (strikingly!) even his top people weren't sure what his agenda was (he spouted different ones to different audiences) and that he was peculiarly confident he'd win and then absolutely stunned when he didn't.

Worth remembering with him hanging around in the wings waiting for God to call again. Also that many Americans had no problem with him serving god before the people and constitution, while the press acted as if it was against both their journalistic principles and good manners to discuss religious goals.

40. True.

Even if you accept the Bible and are religious, the utter lack of understanding by Bachmann is amazing.

There is nothing stating that there would no longer be any flooding ever. Climate scientists are not saying that the earth will be flooded, killing all life. Sea level rise affects most people because most people on earth live near the coasts as that is where there is food and access to trade routes. Flooding at the coasts will push people inland which will strain already strained resources. Most people will likely die from famine, disease, and war, not from flooding and not all people on earth will die but many will.

I grew up Catholic and went to school from 2nd grade to High School in Catholic school. While there are a ton of problems with the Church that I won't even mention, the idea was always that you follow the main teachings attributed to Christ, which were to love God with your whole heart, mind, and soul; and that you treat others as you would want to be treated. There are obviously a lot more rules, but you are supposed to take care of others, protect the vulnerable, care for your environment, and be an example of Love to others.

There are many types of Christianity which is the whole problem, everyone interprets the same book (or changed it) to suit their desires. You have people ministering to homeless, providing meals and shelter, then you have idiots like Bachmann running around denouncing science. You have people like Bishop Romero being killed for fighting against corruption, and people like Newt Gingrich defending the most corrupt president in the last 70 years.

Which sect of Christianity will rule, be in charge? They might set up a council to smooth crap over but eventually the various factions will fight for their brand and eventually it will break down into open warfare like it did in Northern Ireland. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of different sects in Christianity. On top of that, the need to take into count the other religions that will still be present along with the non religious. How will the Christians marginalize those that are not believers? I'm sure they will have something to say as well and if they're ignored there will be open warfare. You know non Christians can buy guns too.

30. the irony here is that death can be minimized *if* we pay attention and prepare.

deliberate ignorance of the sort she exhibits is exactly what will lead to the deaths she's claiming can't happen.

if we build protections from floods, stronger housing, and encourage people to move to higher ground, many of the deaths from rising waters can be avoided.

but if we insist on pretending that what's obviously happening can't happen, then many people will die, all for the sake of a stubborn misinterpretation of a biblical sentence.

42. What a liar. No one has ever suggested that the entire world will be flooded.

There's not enough water in the world to cover all the landmasses, even if all the ice melted, which has happened in the past.

It's very likely that there will be a substantial increase in sea levels, and flooding of coastal areas. Not the same thing

It sounds like, according to her theology, there's no such thing as localized flooding.

Does she know what her god says about lying?

58. My rabbi just addressed that as the as a last line in one of the High Holy day speeches

that made a strong case that we need to act on climate change. Her comment. The Noah story says that God will not destroy the earth - but we are now at a point where collectively WE could destroy the earth that we were charged with taking care of.

So, even if someone. which is not the case here, took literally everything in the Bible, this disputes Bachmann's argument.

60. Rep. John Shimkus said this back in 2010...

Rep. John Shimkus is standing by a controversial comment that global warming isn't something to worry about because God said he wouldn't destroy the Earth after Noah's flood.

The Illinois Republican running for the powerful perch atop the House Energy and Commerce Committee told POLITICO on Wednesday that his understanding of the Bible reaffirms his belief that government shouldn't be in the business of trying to address rising greenhouse gas emissions.
