It will be:
Romney or
Kasich or
Haley

Most likely it will be Romney since the rabid Dumpster base dont accpet Hailey as one of their own.

(13,036 posts)IIRC Ryan was Romney's running mate. Ryan's beady eyes while he's lying thru his teeth is a dead ringer the guy is not to be trusted.
he just moved his family to DC.

(40,168 posts)And I don't think it will be Pence, either.

(16,616 posts)His campaign is spending money on TV and web advertising like it's the last week before the general election. I also can't see Pence substituting for Trump.

(983 posts)So much fanciful thinking on this forum lately.
And guess what? 2020 will still be relatively close.
People need to wake up, fast.

(13,964 posts)but if Dems do what theyre supposed to do i.e show up and vote, then we have the opportunity for a landslide, especially if his approval rating stays in the 39-42% range.

(9,888 posts)have it be Trump than Romney.
My speculation is that if it's Trump enough Repubs will stay home out of disgust for him and inability to vote Dem that we can win. Romney won't suppress the turnout. In fact, I think many Repubs would love it to be Romney.

(18,600 posts)People were hoping for him to get the nomination because we would win in a landslide

(10,721 posts)But if Republicans are instrumental in throwing Trump out, I suspect the base will splinter. At least in the short term.

(18,600 posts)We expected voters to act in the only way we would, leading to the predictions of 400+ EC votes for Ms Clinton. There would have been no amount of corruption that could have overcome such a total, but in truth there was no reason to predict such a landslide. The idea was formed and all evidence that did not support it was rejected.
Similarly if Trump is not the candidate, the Republican base will be in turmoil. Like a wounded animal however, that does not mean it is no longer dangerous or has become ineffective. Complacency can easily lead to defeat.

(10,721 posts)There are far too many red states to make 400+ electoral votes or 60+ Democratic Senators realistic possibilities. As we become increasingly concentrated, we're on track to have 70% of the population represented by just 30% of the Senate within 20 years. We are an anti-democracy.
And then there's voter suppression.
I don't think anyone will advocate complacency.

(10,721 posts)I keep encouraging people to look at the graphs at 538. No predecessor has had an approval rating nearly as steady as Trump's.
It's going to take something truly incredible for the GOP to risk dumping Trump.

(7,315 posts)In order to maintain loyalty, Trump starts his own party.
The repubs form a new party if Trump stays.

(10,279 posts)tirelessly pursued the party's nomination, he deserves a shot at heading the ticket.
