(38,958 posts)not a career enhancing statement on the part of the teacher, despite the intentions.
I am not a fan of the Stars & Bars in any sense, but adding more fuel to the fire and giving Faux news yet another talking point isn't going to win over anyone.

(9,685 posts)But this is against a back drop of republican teachers pulling off outrageous shit... where pupils could be harmed by the potential violence they incite.. These seems pretty harmless in comparison.

(38,958 posts)and would like to believe that things such as this would be a good idea, but we both know that they simply are not so and offer no benefit but as mentioned adding fuel to the fire.

(4,167 posts)I'm not going to applaud any teacher who substitutes snideness for knowledge. That she did it "for our side" is the excuse each side uses.

(6,280 posts).... that the confederate flag is a symbol of racism that people all over the country, including the south, condemns. Now we are supposed to accept blatant lies as part of the argument against southerners? That teacher is no hero, and should be fired. Her bullshit is a slap in the face of every every person living in a Southern state whether they are a Democrat, Republican, or independent. Anyone who takes this crap to heart, and actually believes it, are as susceptible to lies born of willful ignorance as the most hardcore trump supporter. The statement in the article about "hard truth" is just about the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard in my life.

(5,499 posts)About what the civil war was about. Slavery. It wasn't about state rights. It was about wealthy people being able to use slave labor to make a monetary profit. It was an existential question this country would need to answer: were we going to allow one human being to own another.
In our little corner of Michigan we see a few trucks with the Confederate flag and some houses that fly it. I tell my kids that those people are advertising themselves as white supremacist and we will have nothing to do with them.
