Republicans Hope Bad Jobs Report Will Overshadow Obama’s DNC Speech

Republicans Hope Bad Jobs Report Will Overshadow Obama’s DNC Speech

By Aviva Shen

Responding to the heavy media coverage of Clint Eastwood’s bizarre rantings at the RNC — a moment that largely eclipsed Mitt Romney’s address — adviser Eric Fehrnstrom and Newt Gingrich both said that Friday’s jobs report could similarly undermine Obama.

“I think the biggest news next week will not be the three nights of the DNC but it will be on Friday…We’re all hoping for good news but the odds are high that the unemployment rate will remain above 8 percent,” Fehrnstorn said on CNN’s State of the Union.

Meanwhile, on Meet the Press, Gingrich was more blunt:

I think the biggest event won’t be his speech Thursday. It’ll be the Friday morning jobs report. If that Friday morning jobs report is bad, it’ll drown his speech. You want to talk about Eastwood? Friday morning jobs report is a lot bigger event next week than Eastwood was this week.

Watch it:

Republicans have repeatedly blocked Obama’s jobs legislation. In July, the Senate refused to allow a vote on the president’s American Jobs Act, which would have given incentives for companies to “insource” jobs rather than ship them overseas and by most reports would have stimulated GDP growth. As Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) reaffirmed in 2010, “Our top political priority over the next two years should be to deny President Obama a second term.”

Republicans have wanted bad things to happen, just for their political gain.

For the GOP, it's party first, country second.

.. they don't care about anyone but themselves.

"We’re all hoping for good news but the odds are high that the unemployment rate will remain above 8 percent,” Fehrnstorn said on CNN’s State of the Union. "

Also, there will a job dip because of Isaac, so expect that soon. Also the lay offs of seasonal workers, etc.

unemployment rate nonpartisan and even some Republican economists say we'd have had the Republicans not obstructed the President's American Jobs Act for a WHOLE YEAR. That figure does not even include the lower state government unemployment we would have if we still had Richard Nixon's federal-state revenue-sharing in effect.

Clinton needs to compare Republican filibusters against President Obama's legislative proposals to filibusters against other presidents, pointing out that a Senate majority is 51 under Republican Presidents, but, since 2009, 60 under Democratic President Obama.

In short, former President Clinton needs to put Republican economic obstruction in historical perspective for low-information voters, something for which he is uniquely qualified.

IMO, it's a shame Clinton is scheduled for Wednesday, the night of the first NFL game. I wonder whether something can be done to make sure Clinton appears during halftime, and football viewers are urged at the right time to turn to another network for Clinton's speech, instead of a boring halftime show.

No you're not, Mr. Romney-adviser. You're hoping for bad news, because bad news might overshadow the fact that your Repug party has nothing. No plans, no solutions, nothing positive to say.

It's the most important data point each month to trade off, but I'm not sure how much the rest of the nation cares about it.

It's unbelievably wealthy business criminals running things - and to prove it they're running two of their own - bland, boring, destructive vulture capitalists who made far more money firing people and bankrupting companies than they did keeping them afloat. Romney will put our economy on suicide watch.
