It feels to me like we've lost our republic.

The founders never anticipated half of our government turning over on our constitution.

I have a queasy feeling that our only hope is ourselves and how we speak up in the coming election, and because even that has been tainted, it will take a true uprising. Otherwise, dear Mr. Franklin, I’m afraid we weren’t meant to keep it.

That would put an end to the constant brainwashing of republican listening drones.

The reasonable fair-minded majority need to be better organized so these trumpian wingnuts don't get any more say in how things work around here.

unfit turd in office will be on them. He's just openly flaunting campaign laws, like he's daring anyone to even try to stop him.

and how dirty the fight will be. I don't have any answers. My question is, Who will enforce the law?

I totally agree that the founders never envisioned a situation like this, and that by itself makes me nauseous, because they thought of almost everything.

Jeff Sessions.

I guess he is in hiding. Wonder why a reporter can't find him and ask him what he thinks about Barr doing what he obviously refused to do? Jeff Sessions was clearly the only person standing between Trump and a "weaponized DOJ".

Unless or until the GOP decides to not throw this great country away to simply keep a reality show con man with no political future out of prison. That's where we stand right now: Enough Republicans are willing to throw this county away to keep a con man who has no history or future with the GOP out of prison. Let that sink in. How crazy is that? They can move on with another, legitimate candidate... but no. Its reality show con man or revolution.

I feel like the US is so damaged it may never recover. How can a con like Don be sitting there lining his own pockets and abusing the democratic processes for so long?

I don’t think we’ll see Trump removed, but as many have stated the impeachment has to go forward and hopefully that will drive the next election. Prior to that a couple other real possibilities; public opinion will become very strong against Trump and the repugs will finally turn against him, or he’ll have a heart attack/stroke during one of his melt downs. On Wednesday his face was beat red. I hope that was his blood pressure, not just over sprayed tan.

and studies since suggest enough of the electorate has awakened to the danger to protect it. Yes, it could still turn out to be that 2012 was our last true national election, but what's happening right now suggests that won't be the case. If it weren't for external warfare augmenting efforts of domestic enemies to break and take over our democracy, I'd be feeling pretty confident we were going to be okay.

In any case, premature emotional surrender can't be a way for adults to deal with anxiety since for too many it might lead to hiding under the bed instead of voting. Big no to that.

With all my heart.

I still think that it will take an election, a huge tidal wave statement from the citizens, to end this insanity.

Sure they did. The country eventually fought a civil war over it and it seems that what we are experiencing is the re-kindling of what happened in the 1860s. I think part of the problem is that you have a subset of people who reject systems that don't have a tyrannical "strongman" in charge. It makes it simpler for them because they don't have to think.

The first, of course, being the Civil War. That one took a fucking war to save the country and this one is far trickier. The lines and issues are not plainly drawn and it is not geographically defined.
Now we will truly see how much America wants a democratic form of government as opposed to an obnoxious dictator. I had always thought this would be a slam dunk but It is a major etdown when this decision seems to be so difficult for so many.
