1. Is there a Trump tweet associated with that?

That sounds like a very drastic move to me.

Either REALLY BAD financials, or a DFT tweet caused this.

2. All over the nooze today...

Here's one:

http://www.startribune.com/sports-illustrated-on-the-brink-of-massive-layoffs-during-awful-day/562100132/

That reportedly is the current state of affairs with Sports Illustrated, which is on the brink of massive layoffs as much as 50% of its editorial staff in the wake of the transfer of ownership from Meredith to Authentic Brand Groups. Many of the laid off employees would be replaced by freelancers and bloggers from TheMaven.

The sale was only four months ago, so Authentic didn't even give it a chance.

5. Does the magazine have a decent reputation for sports reporting? Not just swimsuits!

7. At one time it was the premier sports publication, along with

the Sporting News. I remember waiting for my next issue of Sports Illustrated to come in the mail (I subscribed as a teen). It had the best writing, legendary sportswriters and beautiful action pictures. I think the added the swimsuit edition when I was in college.

SI has fallen victim to electronic news, what I used to wait a few days for comes in seconds now for free in newsfeeds. All print media is facing that fate, only a handful will survive. I think news syndicators like Ruethers and the Associated Press will survive, they have always worked on a freelance model where they buy local news from freelance reporters and photographers then syndicate it.

8. Sad to see loss of print media. In 100 yrs may not have means to watch today's digital news

Major, serious loss of primary sources for study of past

10. I agree. The next version of SI was to be grabbed out of the mailbox, run inside, and digested

Incredible writing. Loved the "Faces in the crowd" shots. They really gripped the second.

11. I used to go into the bedroom or sit under a big mulberry tree and read the

newest edition cover to cover non-stop, then I would reread the favorite stories that I came upon. It's coverage of the Olympics was beyond compare, it allowed a poor boy to see the world.
