4 Years Ago I was much worse off
by NJMaverick

4 years ago I had just lost half my retirement savings thanks to the GOP letting the economy run wild and crash

4 years ago I was wondering sort of horrible terror attack OBL had planned to inflict on us

4 years ago I was wondering if my money in the bank would be worth anything as our economy was about to collapse and banks were ready to go under

4 years ago I wondered if there were be any American car companies left in the world

4 years ago gays couldn't serve openly in the military

4 years ago we were in a great depression and there were millions of jobs lost every month.

4 years ago I feared for my job and if I could ever find another one

So when the GOP asks if I am better off now then I was under their George Bush I say HELL YES!

My husband is a family doc. He comes home every night with stories of desperate people who are barely hanging on by their fingernails and are ready to snap. I wish we could hurry this recovery up but it will happen in it's own time I guess.

My husband was siting in Iraq. He came back in one piece and good....He will not be going back to the sand box and I'm happy. So, yes republicans, this family is better off. Thank you President Obama.

And I can give testimonial!

I was on a 5 year leave of absence from my company (I just could NOT take "it" anymore). Not thinking that I would ever return, the actual panic began to set in about 4 years into the leave...at the end of the 5 years, if they did not recall us, they would have fired us. BUT, low and behold, the company was doing much, MUCH better and decided to recall the remain folks on the leave.

I've been back to work now about 1 1/2 years (my, how time flies) THANK GOODNESS! I never thought that I would say that!

The company seems better...I've secured my health, dental and life policies...There have been a couple pay increases with another coming in 2013 (not much but it will add up)...I've more flexibility than ever (right now I don't work much; my choice)...and things continue to look good for the company (the current management is actually [cough] smarter?)

SO...having lived with virtually no pay for 5 years...struggling to work a business that I'm a partner in...SWEATING about no health insurance, when I was hurling toward my "later 50's" (a carrot for the leave was that I continued to pay full price for my health, dental and life policies)......

it's SO much better now, than 4 years ago.

No matter what any of the Bullies and Baggers say, having had Grumpy and The Quitter in office, would have been a DISASTER. I truly believe that if the GOPathetics had been ruling everything, we would be...Greece...or worse. Their policies here...the possibility of them starting more wars and/or invading more nations...staying in Iraq...running up more off the budget expense...DISASTER.

We need to DAP (Do All Possible) to (legally!) keep them out of office.

p.s....regarding other posts about it still being bad out there. Yes...there is still bad but other sectors have been doing well. Not to be the Debbie Downer but I think....that we are NEVER going back to those golden old days (if you will), at least in our life time. The entire WORLD has changed SO dramatically. Everything has changed dramatically. There are multiple industries and such that are never, ever going to revive. And the cat is out of the bag on exporting jobs and manufacturing (and with without harsh laws, these corporations are never bringing jobs back to America...anything that shows up here from Crook Corp., is just to hype media and get themselves some publicity...my opinion.)

So the thing now is, the media needs to admit it and move on...and the politicians need to admit it and move on...and begin asking, what is the future? What needs to seriously be done to create new jobs...industry...product...etc. And to protect America from the likes of the worldwide fall.

That is why I feel that Prez O indeed would like to move Forward...whilst the Mittens and CouponCare are spewing about a fantasy view of living 50, 100, 150 years ago or more...their vision is simply not a starter.

4 years ago, things were tight, but I was still meeting my primary obligations.

In the last 4 years:

My salary and contract days have been cut every year; there is no more savings or credit.

My old, decrepit residence continues to fall apart at record place, without the funds to make repairs, so:

3 outbuildings that came down in windstorms are still down, because it costs to haul them off.

Some plumbing broke in a hard winter freeze 2 years ago; I am still half a mortgage payment behind because of the cost to do emergency repairs, and those repairs only addressed the house, not the broken hydrants outside.

Electricity is down to other outbuildings because I don't know how to repair the lines myself; it took me 9 months to get the electricity that went out in the house working again.

I need new tires; there's no cash for them. Bald tires on frozen roads are not something I look forward to, but by the end of next month, that's where I'll be.

I need a blood test, I need to see an orthopedic surgeon, a dermatologist, and a regular GP about some other health issues. My premiums have skyrocketed in the last 4 years, and there's nothing left to pay deductibles and copays.

The subfloor needs replacing, and the laminate above it has buckled; no funds to replace it.

I need a new roof. It leaks in 3 places.

There's no heat in this place; it depends on a wood stove for winter heat. There are no funds for wood. The average winter low where I am is less than 20 degrees; the average winter high is about 38 degrees.

Meanwhile, the value of my home is about half what I paid for it in '05, and well below that mortgage I'm struggling to make.

I don't give a fuck WHO asks me if I'm better off than I was 4 years ago. The truth is NO.
