Memorandum of Phone Conversation: call was 9:03 - 9:33

Estimated time it would take to say all of the words released in the memo: 11 minutes.

Checked by the great @mike_melia in our broadcast software (time of spoken words matters a lot on TV) from @NewsHour

Trump Repeatedly Pressed Ukraine President to Investigate Biden’s Son
President Trump in a July phone call repeatedly pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden ’s son, according to people familiar with the matter, urging Volodymyr Zelensky about eight times to work with Rudy Giuliani on a probe that could hamper Mr. Trump’s potential 2020 opponent.

from Mark Sumner, Daily Kos:

In the case of Trump’s call to Zelensky, there is absolutely no reason to trust anything that Trump puts forward as a transcript. In fact, there are many reasons not to trust the document as offered. The biggest reason is that, as Reuters reports, no one made a transcript in the first place. No one is apparently pulling up a recording. No one was taking shorthand on the day. What’s being handed over is supposedly produced by stitching together “written notes by U.S. officials who listen in.”

Unless it’s a certified transcript, it’s just someone’s notes, no doubt highly edited notes. If Trump is willing to release even this much damaging information, imagine how much he is still hiding.

I'm a speed reader so

But Trump is a speed talker. 30 mins is a long time

Also as pointed out above no "8 times"

I feel sorry for the people of the Ukraine, their prez is a real toady. He was tossing Trumps salad telling him what he wanted to hear

UKRAINE CALL TIMING more: Translation absolutely could account for some of this. Though I’m not sure all.

We are trying to find out if it was sumultaneous translation or not.

However, this is doesn't exclude the fact some translation may have needed to transpire given the POS in the WH inability to speak descent, intelligible English. Also, natural pauses occur. I am not sure how fluent Zelensky is, so there may also be natural pauses in his speech due to English being a second (third) language. However, I would guess there is probably a few things missing, maybe just not as much as some may be thinking.

However, it's not uncommon for calls between heads of states to include translation services. Even if one or both of the speakers is fluent in the other language, often each speaks in his or her primary language and a translation is made. That's for accuracy purposes. But, I don't know what was going on in that particular phone call.

I was just pointing out that Zelensky was fluent, so the translation issue may not be as big a factor. Then again, looking at the "transcript", I have to wonder how many non-English speaking people actually know the word "swamp". I speak a number of languages and I don't know that word in any of them. So, IMO, there was likely some translating happening, which would slow the process, we also don't know what Zelensky's natural speaking cadence is. But, I still feel there is likely parts missing.

It's selected copies of notes taken at the time.

A transcript is:
a written, typewritten, or printed copy; something transcribed or made by transcribing.
an exact copy or reproduction, especially one having an official status.

The audio tape should be released. This is a sham.

There's only the contemporaneous notes and manual transcriptions.

The note released with the document today says this:

CAUTION: A Memorandum of a Telephone Conversation (TELCON) is not a verbatim transcript of a discussion. The text in this document records the notes and recollections of Situation Room Duty officers and NSC policy staff assigned to listen and memorialize the conversation in written form as the conversation takes place. A number of factors can affect the accuracy of the record, including poor telecommunications connections and variations in accent and/or interpretation, The word "inaudible" is used to indicate portions of a conversation that the notetaker was unable to hear.

They don't do it to spy on Americans like the president still is, but they record conversations with foreign persons of interest, like the president of the Ukraine. Problem is, of course, is would they admit it. And it's unlikely they'd want to release it. They're really secretive.

Apparently, there are three transcribers listening to the call and typing the back and forth as quickly as they can. When the call is complete, the three compare their typed copies to clear up any possible misconceptions of the conversation on the part of the transcribers. When they are comfortable that they have the wording and intent correct, they then release the "readout."
