The International Space Station went over NE Ohio tonight.

After texting my friends to be alert for it at 8:00, I took a sports car ride down to the lake for an unobstructed view. There were a number of people there fishing, tying up their kayaks, and checking Facebook in their cars. I went around telling people what they were about to witness and quickly became discouraged.

They all behaved like I was a nut and most never heard of it. One guy asked if that was "Nassau". I told him no, and moved on. There was complete indifference as no one bothered to even look up as it streaked directly overhead at 17,000 mph. It was gone in 7 minutes.

I should have told them it was the flagship of the brand new Space Force. The USS Trump and it was looking for illegal immigrants.

3. Just curious....

Were you using binoculars or a telescope to observe, or just naked eye?

I would need to travel a ways to get away from city light to see it. The astronomy club here has some designated dark spots they go to for their observations that would work.

That guy you spoke to must have meant NASA...

Thanks for the post and for the tracking link!.........

8. Whenever it flies over us my son lets me know

from his ap and we run outside. Sometimes it's a couple times in a week. It was considerably brighter than Jupiter the other night which is saying a lot. It turns red when it's heading into its sunset.

10. I remember seeing spacelab on summer nights when I was a kid

Used to lay out in the backyard on a blanket with my best friend looking at stars and spacelab stood out --- the only object as bright as a star moving from horizon to horizon.

That was cool.
