My Take on Trump

Having been in politics most of my adult life, I am beginning to sense Trump moving ever so slightly to the center. His poll numbers are dropping so he needs to do something to bring them up. Here's why I think he's moving toward the center by the smallest of increments: He fired Bolton (bomb, bomb Iran) he is hinting at giving $50 billion to Iran to ease the sanctions; he's giving an extension of 2 more weeks before the next China tariffs kick in, and, he's hinting at some kind of gun control legislation. What he will do now is watch to see if his poll numbers go up. If they do, I predict he will see how far he can go in this direction without losing his base of supporters. I guess I'll know if I'm right if Trump does start moving more toward the center if his poll numbers improve. Trump is all about survival at whatever the cost - so going toward the center would make sense to me politically. But Trump is a nut case who is unpredictable to the extreme so any prediction can be wrong. Who knows, he might be rolling dice on the floor to see what to do next.

don't be taken in by "baby steps" that are more Brownian motion than directional.

3. You can't take anything he hints at or says as anything that might occur. When the story came out

that he decided to cancel his Camp David meeting with the Taliban, no one believed it was a thing in the first place. You can't utter more than 12,000 lies and expect anyone to believe anything you say. Re the extension of China tariffs - let's see what the stock market does today. That smacks of more stock manipulation and someone's cashing in.

they're pulling in many directions. His past clearly shows he's prone to knee-jerk actions that seem like a good idea at the time. I suspect he listens to many people with various motives but he will tend to go with whatever appears to bring him a "WIN" on any given day. His staff is in constant turmoil just to keep him from going Rambo with the press or on Twitter.

Even though some of the actions seem moderate, just wait a day or so and the new Department of Homeland Cruelty will take charge again with another hard right-wing surprise. There's just too many extreme right-wingnuts on his staff and in his cabinet to believe he will truly take a long-term leftward direction.

The very fact that there are so many extremists in this administration is why things seem so disorganized and random.
