CVS is polluting the world with their 10ft long receipts. We need to stop this.

I propose a CVS day where everyone emails management, and hands back the receipts to the clerks. I'm not saying boycot or be mean: Just email management and then hand the receipts back to the clerks. I do it all the time, but if we all chose a day, then they'd notice.

This extra paper is abusive of the planet. Just as many states are stopping plastic bags, CVS pullutes just as much with these ridiculous receipts.

And no, I don't want to clog my email with them, either.

2. It's abusive to the planet and makes the cashier's job more difficult

by having to change the paper reel more often, which then holds up the line of customers. Or I should say possible lines. I've never really seen people in line at CVS, except at the pharmacy.

16. Because their pharmacy is awful

I don't know if it's a workflow issue or what, but taking hours to fill an RX is ridiculous. I changed to Kroger when I went to the doctor on a Tuesday, went to pick my prescription on Friday and they told me it wasn't ready and would be 45 minutes. Apparently the pharmacist was busy.

But when I have the odd 30 prescription I seem to be in and out in about 20 minutes or less. I figure under staffing is at play with long delays.

They are the single handed most frustrating entity to deal with in the health care industry. That is a pretty fucking high bar.

37. I have never had a issue with the CVS pharmacy.

I plan ahead. The scripts are ready when I am ready to pick them up. I am a casual user of medicine (ailments like occasionally dry skin), I don't and never have had severa problems that may change my mind, but for me, the CVS pharmacy works exceptionally well.

3. Not only CVS

Staples also. And TJ Maxx (though not as long)

Yes, there is an option for emailing receipts, so maybe it's time to start doing that.

Also, aren't those thermal printouts carcinogenic or some other kind of awful?

Yes, it's BPA.... supposedly the harm is enhanced by hand cream or hand sanitizer.

And yes, the 6 foot long coupons or whatever they're printing out is ridiculous. There are so many I don't even look at them, just chuck them in the recycle bin.

It happened to me last week at Best Buy. I looked at it and then ripped away the part that was junk and handed it to the cashier to throw away.

why didn't you take the receipts home, find the retailers corporate headquarters and mail it a letter with the receipts and a description of how stupid it is to generate them.

I just gave them a small task or work so to speak. I was nice and they know you don’t need a 15” receipt. The cashier or any logical person knows this is excessive for no valid reason.

9. I have never gotten anything more than receipts from CVS

I'm honestly not sure if I unsubscribed in the past, but they're very good about only ever emailing me receipts - no coupons, or flyers, or promos, just the record of my transaction. Now, if you don't want any kind of receipt, I don't know what to tell you, but the small bother of having to delete an email is certainly worthwhile to spare half a roll of paper IMO.

39. I was in CVS today. A guy was ahead of me buying an item.

He got a receipt that must have been four feet long. I paid for my item next and got a receipt that was maybe two inches long. I don't know why there was a difference, I only know that I am not a CVS rewards member (I don't need enough stuff from them to bother).

43. If you're not an extracare rewards member

the receipts are just normal length with no extrabucks or coupons. All of us store employees hear and understand your frustrations with our receipts. Handing them back to us adds to our frustration. Contact CVS and let them know you don't like it. I'm sure they'll encourage you to sign up for receipts emailed to you, but it may help them rethink how they do things. Personally, I went back and forth about email vs. paper but after a few weeks decided that receiving emailed receipts is the best way to go.

There are some CVS customers who have made a science out of using coupons at our stores and they come in with well-organized binders full of manufacturer's and store coupons. The savings they receive is often astounding to me. However, most coupon users present one to three, receive their discounts, and leave happy. The receipts are a pain, but the coupons really do save you money, and you can avoid the long receipt if you choose to.

44. If they give people a card or ID number, maybe they can set up to have the discount

information stored with the person's ID, so that when a person buys an item that qualifies for a discount in their membership system, the discount automatically gets applied.

13. CVS doesn't spam you with junk email

The emails are designed to remind you about discounts and extra bucks available on items you frequently buy. I’ve been a CVS customer for 20 plus years and after I sold my business, I thought about where to apply for work. CVS was my first choice and I was fortunate enough to be hired by them.

The discount and extracare program is amazingly good if you invest a little time to understand all the ways you can save. For example, I had a customer last week who’s original total came to $115 and change. After deducting the CVS paper and digital coupons her new total was $46.50. Needless to say, she was quite happy with the result.

7. As a CVS employee

I can tell you that the long receipts are annoying to those of us who work in the stores and ring out customers. The good news though is that you can change your CVS Extracare account to accept digital receipts only. We can take care of that at the register or you can call 1-800-SHOP-CVS and they will change your account for you.

Digital receipts are sent to your email and you will still receive your extra bucks and coupons there. You just use the “send to card” button and the coupons will show up on your account the next time you ring out. You can choose to apply any or all coupons then, or you can also wait if you prefer.

I’d also recommend adding the cvs app to your phone. You receive a $5 extra buck coupon just for doing so and it makes it easier to keep up with sales and discounts. Hope this info is helpful.

My wife literally MAKES MONEY to shop at CVS because of all the coupons. Last night she went and bougtht $42 worth of stuff for $7 and then got $11 back.

I'm happy for them to give us as much free money/stuff as they want, and the receipts are biodegradable so not the same as plastic bags.

We also do this with grocery bags. Weave them into table play mats and floor mats.

The only other use would be to shred them to use as kitty litter or packing fluff.

anything else in a pharmacy. They are essentially a convenience store that happens to have a pharmacist that happens to know how to count pills based on what the doctors and insurance companies to tell them to give out.
