When words fail

Damn to hell those who didn’t vote, who, in the most consequential election in American history since 1860, frittered away their franchise and stayed home, watching the latest reality show. Damn them for refusing to recognize the peril this nation faced.
Damn to hell those who didn’t vote for him, but, still, couldn’t bring themselves to vote for “her”. Voting third party was just as well as voting for the Occupant. They, too, frittered away their votes, in an effort to have what they considered a clean conscience.
Once we survive this, people will clamor to claim they were with the Resistance. “Oh, no, I was always against him. He was insane.” And I will laugh at them darkly and curse them for their delusions. We will become a country of Germans, aghast that innocents were being murdered just outside of town. “We didn’t know what the smokestacks were for.”
Many more people will die because of those who voted for him, didn’t vote at all, or voted for anyone other than “her”. How many? I don’t know, but I fear the numbers will be high. All because we were, yes, decadent, and thought that what happened in 1933 couldn’t happen here in 2016. It could have, and it did, and now we’ll have to rebuild.

I have no explanation why our country descended into apathetic madness. But we’ll have to atone for this sin for decades to come. If we survive that long.
