Three people show up for Philadelphia gunman rally
"Three people showed up for a controversial rally on Friday night in North Philadelphia to support Maurice Hill, the alleged gunman accused of shooting six Philadelphia police officers. Organizers were expecting 200 to 300 people at the rally."
https://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2019/08/16/organizers-say-hundreds-attend-rally-support-maurice-hill-alleged-gunman-shot-philadelphia-police-officers/ ![]() That poster is absolutely fake and is designed to stir up Trump supporters & their ilk. I mean, look at the wording. It doesn't look like it's from a native speaking American. Also, if you're trying to generate sympathy and support for someone, wouldn't you user a different photo of the guy? But Law Enforcement Today magazine is running with it: "He’s the man accused of shooting six Philadelphia police officers. And according to organizers, they’re expecting hundreds of people. Why? Because apparently… racism. ... Welcome to the cop-hating community." https://www.lawenforcementtoday.com/hundreds-expected-at-rally-for-man-accused-of-shooting-6-philadelphia-cops/ Why isn't anyone following up on this? As someone said in another thread: It reeks!

Don't you think the people in Mauritania have the right to be armed with more than ninja skills? Sure, it's a little strange to hold a rally in support of "armed self defense" in Philadelphia, but shouldn't everyone from Algeria to Zimbabwe have the benefits of our 2nd Amendment (as amended and mangled by RWNJ judges)?
Been living in Kentucky for over 6 decades and ain't never heard anyone say "armed self defense" before. |

62. While I Do Think
the language is weird, I guess I'd figure anyone truly arranging such a rally would be weird. There's all kinds of posters around Philadelphia, written by all kinds of groups, that could be described as beyond strange. Plus, this poster is kind of MOVE-like in its presentation and sentiment, so it's not totally alien to the area. Ramona Africa was known to have, and disseminate, some pretty extreme language in her day.

35. I have never --ever-- encountered an American of African descent who self-identified that way...
...unless they were in fact born in Africa.
Whatever your acquaintances may intend, if they were born in America there is an implicit denial of the citizenship that is theirs by right. The political flyer/poster being discussed here contained several clues as to its non-American & possibly Eastern European origin. Taken together, they form a gestalt that clearly indicates that whatever person or group behind it is no friend of African Americans/Black people/POC living in America. (Take your pick of whatever the current preferred appellation is; I do my best to keep up, but it's changed at least half-a-dozen times in my lifetime, and at the moment I am grimly amused to find we are just about back to my humane and polite grandmother's term "colored people," and she was born in the 1880s and lived through 3/4 of the tumultuous 20th century. And POC is self-chosen, so go figure.) |

Were content to remain rather than return to the place they identified with. Again, only a handful but the rationale was essential the same for each. I’m not arguing for the authenticity of the poster in question, only that the use of the African to identify African Americans is not absolute proof of foreign or provocateur origin.

In post 10 of a universal standard. It’s really nothing more than that, and I’m at a loss to understand why you can’t accept it. It seems to me that our sample populations so to speak have some variances apart from the similarities. My original point is that I was not immediately suspicious of the advert in question for the use of “African” in place of African American as I have know a few who do just that. Just because you haven’t encountered doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist no matter how large your sample population.

in the world. Not that he’ll be successful, but if he were, I seriously question if he’s considered the consequences. Civil wars tend to create poverty, and nuclear bombs could be sold for a lot of money.
Imo, he more just wants to embarrass the US, and maybe lessen our power. A civil conflict in the US would not be in Russia’s interest. |

36. Much more effective, and more likely, is to promote division of all types, as the goal is to weaken
...Western democracies and neuter them on the world stage. Thus the push to break up the EU, which was the most effective means of keeping peace in Europe in 2,000 years.
The US was the most important democratic country on the planet in the 20th century, an economic, political, diplomatic, and military powerhouse, the "indispensible nation," but through a combination of our own folly and Russian attacks, this will not be the case in the 21st century. We have as many gun deaths as a shooting war already, and the election of Trump allowed every RWNJ to come out from under their rocks and bridges and fly their freak flags. We are experiencing the psychological effects of this terrorism every day, but I think a literal Civil War 2 is not likely -- just a further crumbling of our social and governmental infrastructure, until our democracy has eroded fatally. |

14. Russian operatives
Nuances of the English language, American colloquilisms, etc. frequently go over the heads of Russian ops who come from lower levels of Kremlin training. For example, the few people of color living in Russia are simply called "Africans." There us no such thing in their language as "African Russians." So, of course, the term "African American" would never even occur to a low-level Russian propagandist.
