While on vacation we stopped in a diner in southwestern Wisconsin for lunch.

It was a nice little place, lots of pick up trucks, working people, and kids. The food was great (wish I could remember the name of it), but pretty soon a guy pulled up in a pickup covered in anti liberal, pro trump stickers. He got out, he had the required MAGA hat on and then came into the diner. I noticed something interesting, people did not give him a smile and wave, they glared at him. One guy covered in dirt from the hard work he had been doing moved to a different stool at the counter to get away from him it seemed. Nobody talked to this guy. When we came in we were obviously not from the area and people were so nice, they welcomed us and were genuinely kind. Not to this guy.

Maybe there is hope in this dark place.

When I was younger, a group of us would camp at Governor Dodge State Park. We would also climb the rocks and swim at Devil's Lake and just drive up and down the Mississippi in the Prairie du Chien area. The views are fantastic! I hope you enjoyed every moment!

Too bad that under this pResident so many dairy farms are going under.

26. Wisconsin has a terrific political history that is populist and progressive.

See this article for more information on one part of that history:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_M._La_Follette

Without some fairly serious monkey business and corruption, I've always figured Walker would have been sent packing, and probably wouldn't have been elected to begin with. Yes, Wisconsin is like a lot of other states, in that, the rural voters tend to lean more to the conservative side of things, but not to the point of being so destructive to the unions, the workers, and the voters like Walker was. The summer after Walker was elected I drove my mom up to northern Wisconsin to see her sister. I was AMAZED at the number of people that were talking about Walker and how much they hated him--and that was completely un-provoked. I have always wondered about the validity of that election based on that.

I also know a man who was on the ground for Hillary, and he said directly that while he was not terribly impressed by the operation he saw when he got to Wisconsin, he was convinced there had been manipulation of vote counts. I have no reason to discount his views--he's a seasoned political operative and he knows his stuff. It would not surprise me one bit that the locals are not feeling much love on some asshat still running around in his MAGA crap.

That recently happened to me outside of Philadelphia. The young woman sitting next to me on the train heard me buy my ticket, but we did not converse.

After leaving the station, I begin the fifteen-minute walk to my destination, and a car stops up the road a short distance and starts flashing its lights. It was the person who had been sitting next to me on the train -- and I was at my destination three minutes later!

35. Southwest WI on a whole is pretty moderate politically

For the past 20 yrs, you can kind of predict a statewide election by looking at how SW Wisconsin votes. Although I think Feingold carried most of SW WI in 2016 but still lost and Walker came close to winning in 2018 despite losing SW WI. But I think those elections were also impacted by decreased turnout in Milwaukee Co. due to voter ID.

You probably also have less people retiring to SW WI than you have in other parts of the State.

or hopefully, most of us still know how to treat a guest/visitor. Also, Trump (who narrowly won Wisconsin) is now eleven points under water here, so there's a decent chance that at least in the Presidential election we will swing back over into the blue column. We did just elect Democrats for Governor and Senate so I am optimistic.

Sorry to be negative. Wisconsin voters had an opportunity to recall Walker. Walker won by 20+ pts. Walker's collaborators put in ultra-right judges on the WI Supreme Court. Walker's minions dominate the the WI Senate.

Voter suppression is firmly established now. Gerrymandering almighty.

It is very unlikely that any Democratic candidate can win in Wisconsin.

49. Sorry but Walker never won. He and his clan STOLE elections with every trick they could muster.

Voter suppression.

Purging voter rolls.

Voter ID. Closing and limiting the hours of DMV (DOT) office hours. Limiting the ability to get a Voter ID

Moving voting places without prior notices.

Reducing the number of voting machines to create long voting lines preventing some people from voting.

Limiting the number of days for early voting.

Physical intimidation of minority voters at polling places.

Millions of Koch dollars to spread advertising lies about Democratic challengers.

Mystery appearance of 7000 "uncounted" votes to swing an election.

Election results tallied on a private computer. Run by a Walker supporter.

Stacking the Supreme Court. Again with millions of Koch dollars.

Gerrymandering the state with maps drawn in secret meetings with private attorneys hired by the GOP. ONLY republican lawmakers allowed to see the process.

Now when the Democrats win an election and toss Walker out the GOP held legislators stripped the incoming Governor of powers to govern.

Wisconsin is a corrupt state when it comes to the election it is no surprise that the Russians decided to assist in tipping the scale in Wisconsin to deliver the electoral win to the lunatic now in the WH.

55. When Democrats and those on the Left choose not to vote, bad things happen.

In 2010, Wisconsin was controlled by Democrats, both the legislature and the governorship. In the gubernatorial race in that off year election, Scott Walker got nearly 90% of the vote that went to McCain in the 2008 election while his opponent, Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett received less than 70% of the vote that Obama received here.
The legislature went Republican and suddenly the GOP controlled the state. Since 2010 was a census year they then had the opportunity to gerrymander the state in 2011.
So what was the excuse for this loss?
In 2010 the state was not gerrymandered to favor Republicans since Democrats had control and for the same reason there was no voter suppression either.
No, too many voters on the Left needed to be excited to turn out and vote and others were pissed at Obama because he didn't get single payer healthcare. Republicans voted like it was their duty, Democrats did not.
Without this happening in 2010, there would have been no Scott Walker.

And when we had the 100,000 people demonstration in Madison along with the other big demonstrations, Wisconsin was the darling of the Left, but when we failed to recall Walker (for reasons many people can't seem to grasp) the state of Wisconsin got thrown under the bus by many on the Left claiming we got what we deserved. Well hundreds of thousands of us here got what we did not deserve.

60. When Repugs on the right choose to suppress voters what you end up with is WALKER and

stacked courts, gerrymandering, laws being rewritten to deny a newly elected Governor laws to govern by.

Don't blame the victims for a hostile take over through a well-funded plan to do just that.

The Russians saw what an easy target Wisconsin was given the dismantling of fair election systems during the Walker years.

There was no Republican gerrymandering or voter suppression or Russian election interference.
I've actually lived in Wisconsin for over 60 years so I know what has happened here. In 2010, Republicans turned out to vote in that off year election and Democrats did not.

Walker won the recall election by just 7 points, but it's also too bad you don't have an understanding of what the situation was here.

We now have a Democratic governor who beat Scott Walker and Trump only won the state by 1%. Hillary Clinton did not make a single appearance here in the general election, something I'm sure the Democratic candidate will not do next year.

walking around Walmart in PA. He was using his cart as a walker and his hands were shaking. Kinda surprised me but I felt sorry for him in his physical shape so I helped him get his groceries out his cart and on to the check out counter.

If he had been a younger man, or a woman, I would have steered clear of them and gone on another line. My daughter, her very young sons, and I have been almost run off the road by a woman with Trump stickers all over her car in NY. We had a Sanders and Ok, then Hillary stickers on our car. This woman had her window open and was cursing at us and giving us the finger.

These Trump supporters are as crazy as he is.
