A mess getting workers out of Trump event. Crowd getting angry. Many of them stopped getting paid.

Read the thread.

A plant employee is now trying to calm the crowd down. Says they will get paid because they are still here working. No one can leave until the motorcade is gone. Most have been standing since noon.

It’s becoming a mess getting workers out of Trump event. Crowd getting angry. Many of them stopped getting paid at 3pm when their shift ended.

1. From the Twitter account of a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter:

Electricians, ironworkers and construction workers are filing into the room where President Trump will speak in about two and a half hours.

His speech will highlight America's "energy dominance" w/ the backdrop of Monaca, Pa.'s Shell Pennsylvania Petrochemicals Complex.

7. Only not; they are a captive audience ordered to be there & stand for hours waiting for him to show

...and then having to listen to his rambling. Ugh, what a day at the plant.

I'm surprised no one fainted, because keeping them standing all that time is absolutely barbaric.

18. Reminds me of the Marine Corps

"Mandatory Fun Day!"

You WILL go and you WILL have fun!

That's an order!

In real life, these workers can leave anytime they want. It's work, not prison.

This is an unlawful denial of freedom.

And in real life you are entirely free to go ... find another job.

20. That would make an interesting lawsuit.

There are certain things a company cannot force on their workers.

Religion and politics are on the list.

5. Jee, I didn't even know that asshole was in the region.

Poor Beaver County.

The trades men/women trying to actually build the place, don't worry about them. The self made billionaire will pay them for the hours they had to stay on the jobsite, unpaid, after work, so he could have a photo op.

The checks in the mail.

6. Local news coverage

Several times they’ve mentioned that Trump took credit for the plant even though it was planned before he took office.

11. Sent at 3:19, "many" not paid after 3:00? Whatever.

But making skilled workers stand around for hours, paid or otherwise, is very disrespectful, and I could see getting angry.

Yes, but not after the regular shift ended, thus the reason they were trying to leave before Trump finished speaking. Notice everyone facing away from the podium.

Wouldn’t the company paying the wages of these employees to attend count as a campaign contribution, likely in excess of the legal limit? @emrazz

Possibly...if you could establish that the worker’s time had intrinsic value to the campaign and not just to the company. I’m not sure the test for determining whether a thing has value in this context.

24. I remember when incoherent Reagan would visit some unsuspecting high school

that was excited to hear an actual US president. The news would only show him b*tching about the Democrats. The communities must've been disappointed.

It's amazing that his dementia only kicked in when his plane finally touched down in CA. The same fate will be bestowed upon 45 (nudge, nudge, wink, wink--he's not crazy now!).

30. But this is little more than kidnapping or hostage taking.

It is completely illegal to tell your employees to not bother showing up to work (and forgoing a paycheck) so that they are a captive audience to a political grandstanding rally. This was nothing but a campaign stop for him.

The Ville is like a tiny Austin in the middle of very dumb red wannabees. And he's coming here to campaign for our even dumber Gov that has gone out of his way to destroy the universities, health care, food aid, environment, human decency.
