Got Kinda ticked off today

Took my young grandson to lunch today at McDonald’s live in mostly a conservative area so used to Fox News being on its irritating but I never thought much more beyond we will eat and leave.
Today for some reason it irritated me. I think I thought “really you cater to kids and you put that” Anyhow after looking around seeing a fairly good mix of ages in the restraunt I asked if it was possible to change it. The young girl came back and said “they said NO! they’ve been through this before and it’s a legal thing”.
That ticked me off! to her because it wasn’t her fault I said “ Seriously maybe they should put on something like animal planet that shouldn’t offend anyone” she said “yea”.
Then I went and sent McDonald’s an email complaint and said much of the above but also added basically this “seriously a legal thing” unless Fox News is sponsoring the tv time in McDonald’ and if they are then that should be clearly posted.
I would suggest either animal planet or you tube videos if puppies and kittens. a local restraunt has something like that playing and it’s relaxing and people of all ages can enjoy unless they are cruel and heartless.
I await there reply.
Knowing the area I live in I probably would of been ok if they had said something like most of the patrons prefer it ( elderly conservatives drinking their coffee) but to say it’s a legal thing I can’t think of any reason mcdonalds would legally have to put on Fox News over some other channel unless they are paid to do so so the answer pissed me off.

I know what you mean...it seems like the McDonald's around me are the few remaining businesses who consistently have Fox News on, and it bugs me, too.

They're independently owned, so I suspect it's the owners making the choice of what to show.

One time I took my homemade TV zapper in and used it, but it shut off all their menu boards, too - oops So, I won't use that anymore

27. We got a TV Zapper back in the early 2000s
Mon Aug 12, 2019, 08:06 PM
Aug 2019

Just for when we went to visit my parents. My mom was really into Court TV in the 90s and that morphed into HLN and then she got into FOX and she would watch it 24/7 because she never worked outside the home and became a depressed, fearful shut-in after we all left home.

In the evenings my Dad would come home from work and get his daily FAUXtrage over FOX's version of current events. There was still a lot of obsession with Clinton's blowjob & impeachment, and a lot of defending Dubya and labeling people who didn't agree with Dubya, ANTI-AMERICAN.

When we'd drive 4 hours to go visit them, it was literally us having to yell over FOX NEWS. What a friggin nightmare..

The zapper worked, but of course my Dad wouldnt let it alone until he figured out what was wrong.. he'd start ripping shit apart...so it was only temporary relief. We'd just zap it when they were pre-occupied, but 5 minutes later one of them would notice, bitch about the stupid old TV, and turn it back on. It was the background of their lives. I fear, I know.. it's the brainwashing background to many many Americans lives...

It's nothing short of a CULT

I avoid a local pizzeria because they show Fox News in the dining room. It's insulting to my intelligence so I just choose not to go there. It's never full, but it is popular for kids parties because there is a lot of chairs and tables that you can shove together in any formation or size. So, in other words, FOX news for the little birthday kiddos! And a claw vending machine, and few arcade machines. What kid could ask for more.?

they said it's a legal thing. Hard to believe McD's has become enamored with Faux.

One thing's for certain: a customer in any restaurant should be able to eat their meal in peace and quiet, but especially without a sound that is annoying to any patron.

I would rather listen to ten side grinders and a dentist's drill at once while eating than a moment of Faux News.

Their mouths are moving but nothing coming out.
So you have to focus and read the words in some ways that’s worse. Because some little movement will catch your eye and you turn to see what and then you start reading the hearing impaired caption.

As for speaking to the management I think I’ve never heard nice of either of the local McDonald’s management but I did send the email probably won’t amount to much but honestly that’s a big step for me I am usually a “ don’t make waves” kinda person. But don’t like LIES.

are installing TVs with the upgrades. I go once in a while for a breakfast sandwich. Went in after the upgrade and theres the tv blasting fox news. Pissed me off so I made a note to tell the manager that if he continued show fox news, I wouldn't spend my money there. Didnt get to speak to him that day but the next time I went back, they were playing CNN. So I thought good, somebody else told him. The next time I went in they were playing a nonstop insurance commercial so I figured a trumpster must have complained about CNN so he decided not to do any of the cable news shows.

went on upstairs and got ready for work...when i went back to the lobby about 15 minutes later, CNN was on. Shaming can work.

unless I can convince a family member to put it on FB
Hong is the young girl said they told her they have been asked before that means others have complained unless it used to be on CNN then they moved to Fox but I doubt it. I think I remember seeing it on Fox before. I don’t go there much just when testing the grandkids because they like McDonald’s. Anyhow if others have complained that means they don’t give a shit and have come up with this “it’s a legal thing”
Don’t know what it is about McDonald’s it’s always busy compared to the other fast food places around.

https://www.cheatsheet.com/health-fitness/which-chain-restaurants-support-liberal-or-conservative-views.html/

You’ve certainly been to this fast food restaurant. And Eater says during the 2016 election season, McDonald’s gave 63% of its donations, which equalled nearly $2 million, to Republicans. While it’s clear where the company’s PAC stands, typically the workers of fast food restaurants lean more liberal. In the case of McDonald’s, the opposite is true. McDonald’s workers also donated over $3,000 to Trump’s campaign.

https://www.newsweek.com/viral-tweet-shows-list-fast-food-chains-that-are-reportedly-supporting-trumps-re-election-1453541

The netizen — whose real name is Zuriel Sanders — told Newsweek Friday, "In my tracking down I noticed a lot of the companies are funding PACS which are directly helping Trump's re-election or have helped in the past. It's indirect but I still see it as them supporting his campaign even if it's indirect you know?"

Personally, I'd rather eat at home instead of eating toxic sludge. Fast food isn't healthy and it's expensive in calories and price.

Tue Aug 13, 2019, 11:30 AM

Usually it gets changed, but occasionally I'll get push back like you did.

Bit of a weird one at a BJs Brewhouse in Orlando a few weeks ago. I asked the server to change to a news station and she said, "oh, we're only allowed to have sports on in here." I said, "Great! I have no problem with you changing from Fox News to ESPN. Sounds like a plan."

Despite reminding her twice during my meal, it never did get changed.

The manager was at the door as I left and asked how my meal was. I told him it was the last one I'd ever eat there because of the Fox News situation. Doubt it will make a difference, but at least he knows how one patron felt.
