The owner of Koch Foods

This is a blockbuster story if true that he is the one who called.

Why isn't he in prison?

23. If anybody needs to be arrested, it starts at the top.

And not just at the top of this particular company, either. Way up higher than that. Address is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC.

13. after settlements...

“These raids send a real signal to immigrant workers not to speak up, and we feel like these raids enable employers in the most dangerous industry to cut corners and violate labor standards,” said Debbie Berkowitz, who served as chief of staff of OSHA under Obama from 2009 to 2013 and now serves as the director of the worker health and safety program at the National Employment Law Project (NELP)…"

14. Can we get a list of restaurants that his company supplies?

The govt probably won't do anything - How about a boycott of restaurants that buy from them?

22. Not a prayer. It just goes into the poultry supply base.

It may be in your grocery store.

Grocery store chicken is just disgusting. And I hunt and like meat. Grocery store beef and pork can be ok, if you look. But all industrial chicken is really just processed food. Bad genetics, horrible and filthy conditions their entire life, dangerous and dirty slaughter houses.

25. I've seen their packaged chicken pieces in Jewel groceries around Chicago.

The labels don't always push the Koch Foods brand name, probably since "Koch" has taken on some negative connotation the last few years. (I don't think there's a connection to the Koch Brothers)

27. Oh OK, thanks, I went to their website and looked at where to find Koch foods and found 1 grocery

chain in my neck of the woods. Ingles - I don't shop there - but I will be sending them a letter anyway and letting others know not to shop there

Will be looking into this matter further to see if any other local areas carry their chicken.

19. The company has also been accused of discriminating against Black farmers

and the USDA found evidence to back up that claim.

He has also had plants raided by ICE in the past so he can't pretend he didn't know about undocumented workers. He just didn't care because nothing happens to the owners besides fines and being told not to do it again (with a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge".

20. Buy your poultry from local producers!!

Even here in central Florida, a crappy place to raise poultry, we have several local poultry producers. And are getting more local hog producers. Beef, not so much.

Yeah, it cost more. But I have been in industrial slaughter houses. As bad as hog and beef operations are, chicken slaughter houses are a place out of a nightmare.

The upside of our meat costing more is we eat less of it. We are up to 2-3 meat free days a week. Which is good for us and the environment.

I know some on DU don’t have a budget that allows it. But many of us do.

If for your entire life all you have eaten is industrial raised chicken your first bite of a free ranged local chicken, very fresh will piss you off that you have been sold such crap your entire life.

I visited a relatively in the upper south and was able to buy local raised, farm to table grass fed beef at a farmers market. Straight from the farm owner. I cooked it for our dinner. As good a steak as I have ever had. I wish I had that option here. But hopefully it is coming.

De-industrialization of our meat industry is possible and would be a good thing all around.

Of course our vegetarian members don’t face these issues!

28. Yeah, not his first fucked-up rodeo:

And then there is the issue of labor. Koch's Fairfield, Ohio, plant was raided by U.S. immigration agents in 2007; 161 people living in the country illegally were arrested. According to Ohio news reports, Koch paid a $536,046 fine for violating immigration laws in February 2010. Grendys said that, under the terms of the settlement, he could not comment on the case.

https://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-confidential-chicken-billionaire-1026-biz-20141024-column.html

Political donation:

Joseph Grendys donated $100,000 to Paul Vallas' election campaign committee, Paul Vallas for All Chicago, on Jan. 21, (2019) according to records obtained from the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE).

Vallas appears to be running for mayor of Chicago as a “non-partisan”

29. Burger King, Aldis, Walmart, Kroger

[link:https://www.fool.com/investing/general/2015/05/18/how-koch-foods-built-a-3-billion-chicken-empire.aspx|

I shop at Kroger - So they will be hearing from me

Koch's customers include some of the biggest players in the food business. It provides buffalo wings, chicken strips, and other products, to Wal-Mart; chicken nuggets for Burger King; and also processes nuggets for large supermarket chains including Kroger and Aldi.
