I know there is no monolithic voting bloc called womenfemaleness, like maleness, is cross-cut with race, education, class, income, ethnicity, religion, marital status, even geography. I also know we all make allowances for our own side, which usually boils down to forgiving men for sexual shenanigans and insulting gaffes (aka blurting out their true feelings) that no woman politician would get away with. But with that fully acknowledged, I still want to say: Women! WTF?! After all the weird, heartless, misogynistic, ignorant things Republican men have said about women and pregnancy and rape over the past month, Im ashamed for my sex that any woman is still planning to vote for Romney and Ryan.
And a lot of them are: 51 percent of white women, to be exact. Whats the matter with them? Do they have Stockholm syndrome? And how about you, women of Virginia21 percent of whom in a just-issued Public Policy Polling survey say they strongly agree that abortion should be banned even in cases of rape and incest? (For women 18 to 29, its 32 percent.)man is still planning to vote for Romney and Ryan.

(10,960 posts)The only white subgroups I expect Obama to win are people under 30 and single women.
He lost white women by 7% in 2008 while winning in a blow-out. If Obama actually gets 48-49% of white women this year the election is over.

(20,174 posts)and more of the Latino vote than McCain got. Sounds good to me. McCain actually got 4% of the black vote and over 30% of the Latino vote. Mitt is polling 0% with blacks and 26% or so with Latinos. He will have to get 61% of the white vote to win. McCain only got 55% of the white vote. The last time a Republican got over 60% of the white vote was Ronald Reagan!

(7,429 posts)I know quite a few white women who are voting for President Obama who are my age. I thought Mittens was losing the woman vote altogether. This really doesn't make any sense

(63,221 posts)polled. I sometimes wonder where they come up with these "statistics". I have been having a lot of conversations with my female friends over the last few months and not one of them is voting Romney/Ryan. Interestingly enough, not one of them has said they had ever been polled.
I have a feeling that these "polls" are a bunch of bullshit, made up to influence the vote. People always think that they want to be on the winning team, but I don't think that's going to happen this time. Women are PISSED OFF!

(10,960 posts)McCain got several points more than 51% of white women in 2008.
This is an excellent number for us.

Female voters strongly favor President Barack Obama over GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, according to the survey, which was conducted by Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway of inc/WomanTrend and Democratic pollster Celinda Lake of Lake Research Partners.
<...>
Obama received support from 52 percent of likely female voters, compared to 36 percent for Romney. That double-digit lead tracks with Obama's performance in 2008 exit polls, although it's a few points higher than Obama's lead among women in other recent polls.
Half of the women polled said Obama deserved an "A" or "B" for his time in office, while 29 percent gave him a "D" or an "F."
Michelle Obama also fared well, with 72 percent of women viewing her favorably. Ann Romney, who exclaimed "I love you women!" during her Wednesday convention speech, was far less well-known, with 30 percent viewing her favorably, and 45 percent saying they hadn't heard of her or had no opinion. The survey was conducted prior to the speech.

The 29 percent are clearly Cheney Republicans.

(15,774 posts)Most women are pissed about the Senate Comittee on women's issues being composed of old white guys of the GOP. They are pissed women were not allowed to have a say, they are pissed that a nice young woman was shut out and called a slut, and what is with this rape shit. Even my most conservative women friends are about to bolt (in the privacy of the booth of course).
But this is unscientific, just what I gather from my Nurse buds, knitting circle, ladies church group, the teachers I work with, my daughter's young, post college friends. Basically any group of women that can talk freely amongst themselves.
The war on women will have casualities and consequences.

(10,960 posts)McCain won white women by 7 points while being blown out.
This poll says Romney is doing much worse among white women than McCain did, in a closer overall election.
What is the problem?

(15,774 posts)Then read my response. I think the poll that say women are lining up to vote for Romney is bull shit.
Read before you post.
Edited to add...I hope that puts your mind at ease Mr Scorpio.
