Why is the us border patrol in tactical gear at the el Paso shooting ?

I would expect police swat teams, ATF, FBI and the like but why is the border patrol involved ? Are they trying to arrest people while they are evacuating the mall ? I would not put it past them. They have done that at the exit of courthouses, schools, churches. Etc..

The shooting is tragic enough not to have these goons also terrorize poor people of Hispanic descent that are in the area.

I'd want to get home to my family after the situation was taken care of.
All officers from all departments, respond to shootings like this. Sheriff, local, state patrol, etc.
Would you feel better if they showed up in shorts and flip flops?

Apparently you don't expect border patrol to show up at an active shooter situation. Well, you obviously don't know anything about how law enforcement agencies are trained to respond to these situations.

What I do know is that these goons have been hard at work terrorizing the local population and use every opportunity to do so. I'm sure we have enough swat teams, FBI, ATF , etc to respond adequately. It's actually what they are trained for.

Border patrol works alongside a long list of law enforcement agencies in situations such as this as they are trained to do.

Since the shooter appears to be another angry rightwing White man, he could have walked past those border people with a fully loaded AR15 slobbering from the mouth and they would likely have done nothing.
