Let's not forget Democrats put Man on the Moon

Nixon was in office to reap the reward, much like Trump is reaping Obama's economy

1. I will give some credit

to Eisenhower, it was under his administration that NASA was started. JFK took office on January 20, 1961, and Alan Shepard flew the first Mercury mission on May 5, 1961. Much of the plan that would take us to the moon was formulated before Kennedy took office.

He certainly gets credit for prioritizing it.

2. That's just not true

It took many people from around the world to get this thing done.
Democrats never could have done it alone and I have never heard anyone try to make such a claim.
Why try to be divisive over such an accomplishment?

4. It never would of happened

without JFK committing the country to landing a man on the moon by the end of the decade.

6. That was just the beginning - It took so much more then a that

To try and give Kennedy all the credit does a disservice to all the people who worked so hard and to the people who gave their lives to make this a success.

11. It never would have happened

without Kennedy’s leadership. As well as Johnson’s after Kennedy’s death.

10. It's more likely it never would have happened

without Lee Harvey Oswald. Kennedy had been covertly trying to end the American moonshot in the months before his death and started talking about a joint Russo-American effort. That stopped when he was killed.

Once JFK became canonized, neither LBJ nor Nixon could have dared squash the efforts.

History is sometimes more complex than we want to admit.

12. Maybe/maybe not

Either way it wouldn’t have happened without Kennedy and then Johnson.

9. Precisely

and I find the suggestion of the OP to be simply incorrect.

3. Many of my fellow NASA engineers were Republicans

Not the crazy kind we have now, though. We had friendly arguments.

5. Engineers and Nazi SS rockets got us to the moon!

Those things didn't build themselves

8. We had to beat the Soviets to the moon

Now that we are bigliest buddies with Russia, we just don't have that motivation.

Of course, the Rump will say we must do it to own the libs.

13. It was a joint effort

with Republicans and Democrats working together to achieve, credit doesn't belong to just one of the other.
