Not to mention demeaning.

My hometown had shitgibbon signs in the front yard of multi-million dollar homes owned by professional athletes, attorneys, doctors, bankers, etc. Well educated, wealthy people who drive Mercedes and BMWs. Perhaps some are disabled, who knows. Not sure how that fits in anyway.

This kind of thinking may make some people feel superior, but it’s just plain wrong.

You are extremely accurate. I live in a mountainous area in WNC that is full of that exact disrciption. But, I am also surrounded by multimillion dollar get away homes, mostly floridiot millionaires. Doctors, real estate tycoons, lawyers and ex CEO's. They all were here over the 4th for a week prior and after. All were sporting MAGA hats, Hillary for Prison on their $60,000 SUV"s and every one of the Dozen near me had huge Trump flags and Americs flags off their massive decks. Not one of them would stand 10 feet near the prediscribed knuckle draggers that lap up all the trump shit but they will ride that hate filled train to another trump win for taxes and rich people democracy. Before the mouth breathers figure out they are being conned, our country as we dreamed it was about will be lost with gerrymandering, Corrupt AG and all cabinet puppets. Putin and the smirk say's it all. Fox, Rusty Limpballs et al have destroyed this country. I am disgusted at the country I voluntarily served during the Vietnam era. Risked my life, life long injuries for these fools. I will be kneeling at any event, never again lip syncing the Anthem, until this tyrannical shit show is defeated if we ever have a free election again. The gun toters may have their chance to use their precious second amendment to attack the Tryrannical government they have all dreamed of. The GOP may regret all the weapons you can carry when those exact gun owners realize who their real enemy is. Putin is kicking our ass, without a shot fired.

For many people of wealth, money is the ultimate value. They like the tax cuts and show that they only care about themselves. It’s the tax cuts and the “screw you, Jack, i’ve Got mine mentality!

That many Germans in the Nazi Party were well educated people. Unfortunately educated enough for prestigious jobs isn't the same as being wise or sophisticated in thought.

In my jobs as a customer service representative, I have spoken with many wise, quietly dignified people who did not sound "educated" by the usual social standards. I also dealt with folks with "doctor" in front of their names (and don't you dare forget it, either) who were utter a-holes.

Wisdom and compassion, even logical thinking, aren't automatically included with a fancy degree.

Look at his KKK rallies... they are full of much younger, more mobile people.

Some seniors may have voted for him the first time because he's "not Hillary" but the vast majority are willing to consider a good "not Trump" option if we give it to them.

I don't condone that mindset... I'm just saying.

There's a lot of buyer's remorse out there. A good deal of them will not vote Democratic but enough might if the right "not Trump" comes along. Yes it is a big stretch.

A lot of them are indeed racist but won't stand for outright abuse in their faces. They want the problems at the border fixed and they want the KKK to go back in it's hole. The racism level of shitty inner city schools, and cops shooting unarmed black men, brown people relegated to low paying jobs was about as much as they could handle in their faces. This level makes them tune out.. and I think that is part of the plan from Republicans. Once Maga is relegated to the dust bin the racist can say... see how much better it is? Shit.

Most church going people aren't horrid. They need extra help to get to the right place. Turn up the dial too loud and they check out. It isn't right, it isn't pretty, but that's the reality.

This is a realistic view of some Trump voters. I wonder if it really serves our interests here at DU to use put downs of these folks. I think we should consider some compassion. These folks have been shafted economically, some of them and that is the source of their anger. I think the lower attendance at main line churches is part of the story. The mainline churches would have led many to a better place, but fundie churches were more attractive to them.

Sun Jul 21, 2019, 02:19 AM

that he has no way to expand his base, which sits at no more than 40% of the voting public.
He has never tried to expand his base.
He somehow believes that 40% will win the 2020 election.
He must be counting heavily on Russian support.
The Democrats need to rally the 60% and get out the vote.
The higher the vote, the less chance Trump has.
If 150 million people vote, Trump loses by over 10 million votes.
For every additional million that votes, the Democrats will get 80-90%.

How is this true you ask?
Well, Trump's base is fixed and is sure to vote. It is about 60-62 million.
Hillary lost because of a combination of apathetic Democrats, huge vote totals for other parties, and Russian manipulation.
And something I call Hillary hatred.
The way to win is to bring in 10-15 million more votes.
Since Trump's base is already sure to vote, the additional voters will be against him.

This may sound like wishful thinking, but his base is fixed. Additional voters would be there because they don't want him.

No Hillary hatred to help Trump.
It's going to be a different dawn on the day after the 2020 election.

Trump will not be reelected.
