House Dem Shreds AOC and Colleagues for Playing the ‘Race Card’: ‘Their Ignorance is Beyond Belief’

By Connor Mannion Jul 11th, 2019, 4:19 pm

A House Democrat blasted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her progressive allies for their ongoing feud with House Speak Nancy Pelosi, saying “their ignorance is beyond belief.”

Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-MO) fumed at AOC and other House progressives for their dispute with the House speaker, and accused them of playing “the race card.”

“What a weak argument, because you can’t get your way and because you’re getting pushback you resort to using the race card? Unbelievable. That’s unbelievable to me,” Clay said according to The Hill. “I could care less. I could really care less. I agree with the Speaker. Four people, four votes out of 240 people, who cares.”

16. Did you read the article -

Clay is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and is considered a centrist Democrat. The progressive group Justice Democrats has endorsed his primary challenger Cori Bush, and Clay took time to bash Justice Democrats as well.

“They’re missing the fact that we have a very thin margin of a majority that we’re operating under and apparently it doesn’t matter to Justice Democrats, they just want to get skins. They want to score points for whatever reason. But I find it juvenile, their tactics, I find their ignorance to be beyond belief about American history and about who are really segregationists. And so how dare they try to play the race card at this point, it shows you the weakness of their arguments.”

15. They did.

WASHINGTON — As reports of migrant children being held in squalid conditions at federal facilities near the border continue to draw outrage, Democrats successfully pushed a $4.5 billion humanitarian aid package through the U.S. House late Tuesday evening with a vote of 230 to 195.

The passage of the bill marks a narrow victory for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who managed to coalesce a unified front after several days of uncertainty and division within the party. Ultimately, only four Democrats broke rank, and none of them were Texans.

So those four facilities opened instantaneously after the vote? I don't think so. Those facilities take long term planning and staffing. Unbelievable that you think they were built, staffed and filled in a nanosecond.

giving a big f.u. to the house.

So correct me if I am wrong. You, your own words, are giving a big f.u. to our Democratic congress when they tried to give some humane relief to children in cages. Damn them for trying to help the children. I guess we should just vote them all out and go back to being in the minority again. Jaysus!

Centrists help hold the line to give us a blue representative. I am well aware of the call to primary them all, a lot of good that will do us when we lose that seat to a repuke. Purity is not what it is cracked up to be.

You are wrong and you are here telling us on Democratic Underground that every Democratic member of the House voted for for profit prisons and not the children in cages.

You prefer we do nothing? You most certainly do not want more children to die. So what is your suggestion to make this right? You tell ME what we are doing wrong and can make this right.

Every single Democratic Senator, either in public or private told him to resign except for these 5

Joe Manchin (ONLY one who said he should NOT)

Bob Menendez (was under Federal corruption indictment at the time, refused to comment)

and the 3 members of the Ethic Committee (who by law, could not comment)

Chris Coons, Delaware, Vice Chairman
Brian Schatz, Hawaii
Jeanne Shaheen, New Hampshire

I am sure 4 of those, all but Manchin, if they had no legal reason to not comment, would have told him to resign as well.

61. Respectfully disagree. Say I'm a 30 year old Freshman in Congress.

I disagree with many in my party.

My party leader, who has been an effective legislator for longer than I have been alive. Who was the first female leader. Who kept her caucus unified against all odds in minority. Who never lost a vote as majority leader. She tells me I’m not helping. Tone it down.

I fucking tone it down. For 2 reasons:

1. She probably has more knowledge about governing in her left pinky than my few months of experience gives me.

2. If I don’t tone it down the Hammer of Thor is soon going to hit me.

I’m afraid we are at option number 2.

We need one voice in the House. The elected speaker. If we have a caucus than can vote her out, then I would support that caucus. But we don’t.

One final thought I have not read here, but don’t read all threads. And this is how things work...

If and when the a progressive or any member is seen as a drag on the party, do you doubt Pelosi would hesitate to publicly cut ties with them? I hope we are not there. But can see it happening.

Our victory in the house was really a victory of moderate democrats winning in previously republican districts running on healthcare. It actually made our caucus more moderate. Pelosi is not going to risk that.

65. Wow! I usually save hate for things like blatant racism,

Lying, cheating and stealing. Well, even then, hate doesn’t come into play.

But to each their own.

Hope I typed that grammatically correctly.

73. Damn, I never realized that I was limited to hating just one thing

well, now I know. Thank you so much for illuminating me.

41. Well, just ignore that race card and

see how it plays out in the long run.

I am with Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

The way to keep losing to republicant's is to keep moving closer to their positions.

Give the people an actual choice and they will make the right one - they will vote left.

66. Excellent. Secret Socialist!

There are probably not 30 districts where AOC could win.

Certainly not the moderate seats we switched last election to give us the majority.

It’s like people don’t understand. The house, now in majority, is way more moderate than when in the minority.

55. Who?

Some no name representative trying to make his name off someone popular. This will backfire.

72. Clay is pissed that AOC supported Cori Bush (A-A woman) against him in the primary

He and his father have had that seat (MO-1) for literally 50 years.

59. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (MN), Rashida Tlaib (MI), and Ayanna Pressley (MA)

will outlive Speaker Pelosi and be our future.

And many other women like them.

I say that as someone whose respect for Peliso has grown over the last 2 years.

79. probably the only way to get AOC out is via a redistrict action post 2020 census

I go into detail on all 4 of the Squad's primary challenger chances here

82. Based off what? She has a MASSIVE national and local presence, she will be able to crush anyone

via fundraising, the demographics of her district aid her to a large degree, and she will have a huge ground game again.

I doubt Joe Crowley tries to regain his seat, although some other members of his circle may try.

I do not see it happening based off an impartial reconnoitre of the situation.

I do see a possible attempt to redistrict her out post 2020, IF Schumer presses for it.

83. And that matters very little if AOC is one term because there will be more.

The future is female...of brown complexion.
