The Voters Have the Final Say

It's not an immediate thing, of course, but every two years, we get to say who represents us in the House of Representatives and the same for 1/3 of our Senators. Our next opportunity comes in November of 2020.

Since that year is divisible by 4, we also get to elect a President in the same election.

Between elections, we can "petition the government for redress of grievances," but we have to wait for elections to actual take control of our government.

Here's what I recommend to everyone here on DU:

1. Contact your House member and Senators and petition them to do what you want. They might or might not.
2. Start this very minute to work hard on next November's elections, concentrating on electing the best choices for every office.

The second item on that short list is the most important one. The first is also worth doing, and it's also worth mentioning the 2020 election when you do so, although House members are painfully aware of that election.

Here's what doesn't work:

1. Posting suggestions about unconstitutional actions that MUST BE DONE RIGHT NOW! Those ain't happening.
2. Arguing on DU about what should be done, but not communicating with your House member and Senators.
3. Calling for illegal actions that lead nowhere but jail.

I'm just saying...Why don't we do the things that can work, instead of wasting time on things that can't?
