ACLU Filed Motion To Block Trump Citizenship Question Executive Action

ACLU Filed Motion To Block Trump Citizenship Question Executive Action
Trump is trying to get around the Supreme Court with executive action on Census citizenship question, but the ACLU already filed a preemptive motion to block Trump.

ACLU Voting Right Project Director Dale Ho told MSNBC, “We have a pending motion in the lawsuit we filed to permanently prevent the administration from adding a citizenship question based on their repeated representations that June 30th was the, quote, drop-dead date for changes to the census questionnaire. So that motion is going to be heard in federal court in about a week and a half. There’s pending proceedings in the federal court in Maryland about whether or not this attempt by the administration was motivated by a desire to weaken the political influence of Hispanic communities. Yes, I think if the administration does, in fact, come forward with a new decision, Trump adding a citizenship question you’ll see more action by the ACLU.”

Trump executive action is an admission that he has no valid reason for including the citizenship question in the Census. The president is going to try an end around, but his executive order is going to result in more court cases and delay. The Census is being printed right now. It is possible if his executive action dragged out in court that the forms could already be mailed before the case is decided.

The House has promised to block any funding for a Trump Census do-over, so Trump won’t have the funds to do another Census.

This is a presidential tantrum that is going nowhere. Trump’s executive action is going to backfire on him and prevent the citizenship question from being included in the Census.

2. I wondered

If someone was going to use the June 30th date in a legal argument. Good for them. And I agree, any attempted EO action completely backfires.

10. Is Roberts going to standby and let the likes of Trump minimize the status of the Supreme Court.

I mean the historical status it has had in the molding of the laws we all are guided by.

Is Roberts going to let Trump cast them aside as an insignificant interference in his tyrannical mission to destroy Democracy?

Is Trump also going to destroy the federal Supreme Court like the republican governors have been doing in state Supreme Courts?

Take Wisconsin's Supreme Court as an example. Bought and paid for by the likes of Koch brother money and their puppet Scotty Walker.

The thought of a fair hearing in Wisconsin's Supreme Court is a pipe dream and a laughing matter.

5. I wholly support the ACLU. What I find depressing is that the ACLU is doing work that

members of Congress should be doing --- meaning keeping the Pres in check.

6. How does one become "a card carrying member of the ACLU" ?

I have tried to find, without much luck, a way to join the ACLU and send regular donations.

Anyone?

12. I have tried "the Goggle" in the past without much success. Certainly not a clear clean website.

My dad was a printer who told me that "white space" in a written document is as important if not more important than the text.

Since the advent of the WWW that has become really evident to me.

My dad passed away in the late 1990s long before the internet was commonly known.

I avoid cluttered webpages and move on.

Thanks again for the link and I think their website developer knew what my dad knew "white space" matters.

19. The goggle started out as a minimalist way to get relevant searches. It was corrupted by $$$

meaning ad revenue.

Relevant search results fall way down in their presentations since corporations spend a lot of money to get put at the top of the search lists. This even means organizations that would like to deflect searches for "ACLU".

I would recommend you look at alternate search engines such as https://duckduckgo.com/ or https://www.startpage.com/en/. There are also a bunch of privacy control tools you can implement in your browsers.

What started as a nice academic information sharing network back in the 80's has morphed into a cutthroat consumers-are-our-product.

21. Dead on truth!

I worked primarily in education as a technology consultant.

In the early 80s, I remember being amazed at what you could find with simple text searches.

I remember thinking how this was going to be a great tool.

One of the key factors in being a consultant/researcher/genealogist (my wife's hobby) was knowing where to look to start finding answers.

In the early days that often is what searches would result in, a relevant, starting point.

Once it became commercial and the (Ad) notation started showing up. The search result became less and less relevant and I would mostly ignore any result preceded by the (Ad).

That, in my opinion, puts the researcher back to needing to know who to trust and who to avoid. Needing prior experience with trusted sources was key to finding answers.

A side note we cut the cord years ago and started being more selective in what resource we invited into the house. What services were we willing to pay to get to see what we want.

We started watching the British BBC programing. I've noticed that you rarely if ever would see anyone doing a google search you would often see the two search sites you mentioned https://duckduckgo.com/ or https://www.startpage.com/en/.

Thanks for that. In return try.
https://acorn.tv/ and https://www.britbox.com/ for two British programming resources.

22. Thanks in return! I've tried to get my news from non US/paid sources. BBC, Reuters

and some German/French outlets.

While Murdoch has worked hard to pollute the idea of news, some seem to not be as easy to corrupt.

I'm on the fence about NPR since their "stars" seem to also be swayed by nice things/glitter. Too bad that the US can't have a real sense of fairness in broadcasting. Again, $$$.

I imagine he's really pissed off the Supreme Court. A really stupid move because he may need favorable decisions from them regarding things like the release of his taxes.

20. Thank you so much for that post. This is what I fear for this country again, but much worse

Climate change and the influx of a huge number of desperate refugees from around the world will prompt the "I Got Mine" folks to enact draconian solutions.

And the next Trail of Tears will include lily-whites who aren't on the same socio-economic scale as the ruling class. I'll be on that trail, also.
