Florida governor signs bill requiring felons to pay court fees and fines to be eligible to vote

Florida felons will have to pay court-ordered financial obligations if they want their voting rights restored under a bill signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday. The legislation requires those with felony convictions to pay court fees and fines to be eligible to vote.

2. And by strange coincidence ...

If they met their obligations and if they were to submit their paperwork today
their application would take until after November to clear all the channels.

6. Any chance that

It can be challenged on the grounds it is a poll tax?

8. Restitution is generally considered part of sentencing I believe.

If the Florida law requires that felons complete their sentence before being able to vote, I could see how a court might rule that it was legal. Not so sure about fines and court costs.

9. A poll tax, is a poll tax, is a poll tax. Once it gets into the federal courts, I think that this

will be declared illegal.
