"I hate the government even though I suck on the government teat."

It's amazing how the GOP is so shameless that it features "entrepreneurs" saying "I built my business without government help" even though they sucked up all the government aid they could.

And how Chris Christy can be so shameless as to proudly recall how his father raised himself up by going to college on the GI Bill, and then blasting the government its programs and saying we need to make "tough choices" by slashing them.

The basic message seems to be "Big government is bad...Unless it's helping me."

he hasn't gotten as many federal contracts and is now reduced to relying on state and local contracts.

Was that speech a satire on the convention or was it really a speech at the convention?

How can someone complain about government spending and about not getting enough government contracts at the same time?

Do these people completely lack the ability to think logically?

It's amazing.

You have to be able to detach your emotions for a short time and try to think not only what makes you feel good but also what makes you feel awful.

You have to at least try to find a place of objectivity where you aren't thinking about your own interests and just feeling good.

Self-control, the prerequisite I think, for logical thinking is learned -- but in early childhood.

I once knew a guy who thought logically virtually every moment that I talked with him. He was a brilliant historian of science. It was extremely interesting to hear him talk about his favorite subject. He dated beautiful women, but I noticed that his relationships did not seem to end well. Maybe he was too logical. Maybe he did not have enough ability to appreciate the emotions of others and himself.

There is a middle ground. And that is where we need to be to think logically about politics, to think without too much self-interest about human values and how we agree to bring those values into our society and lives.

So thinking logically about politics takes a balance. Balancing our self-interest as much as possible while holding to emotional values about how society needs to work.

Maybe that kind of logic can be learned, but for many Republicans it is too late.

It's almost like a black comedy -- a satire on how how dishonest and low and sleazy a political party can get away with.

Like some comedian said "You can;t make this stuff up."

railing against the government and at the same time demanding more money from it.

And they do this with a straight face as if no one will see nor care about the contradiction.

But then they are doing this having immersed themselves in communities who accept paradox as the norm and obediently obey and accept the contradiction.

The just want something for nothing. That explains why they don't want taxation, or regulation, or all of the rest. Give me my hoard, peons.
