The government tries to silence bad news, and thats why social networks are now playing a big role, Luisa Torrealba, coordinator of the Venezuelan branch of the Institute for Press and Society, told CPJ. They are an escape valve to allow people to learn whats going on. Or, as Miguel Henrique Otero, editor of the Caracas daily El Nacional, told CPJ: With so much self-censorship in Venezuela, Twitter represents freedom of expression. Often, Venezuelans pass on information and learn about events, such as power outages and oil spills that the government is not eager to publicize, through Twitter, Facebook posts, and blogs.
But the government is also using social media to promote its agenda and to attack its critics. President Hugo Chávez Frías Twitter account now has more than 3 million followers, while his ministers regularly announce new measures via Twitter. More ominously, prominent journalists and opinion leaders have had their Twitter accounts hacked, in many cases by a mysterious pro-government group called N33....
...Díaz believes N33 gains access to personal online accounts through collaboration with Venezuelas main government-run Internet service provider CANTV. N33 has denied any ties to the government. But its actions are often publicized on La Hojilla (The Razor), a state-run TV late-night program that regularly lambastes journalists critical of the Chávez government. Neither CANTV nor the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation responded to CPJ email and phone requests for comment.
Otero told CPJ that after his journalist wifes Twitter account was hacked, friendly government sources assisted him in carrying out his own investigation. Otero said his information indicated the hackers were working from the Caracas office of the national intelligence service, known as SEBIN. Neither SEBIN nor the Ministry of Justice and the Interior responded to CPJ email and phone requests for comment....

is a web site clearly on the side of corporate hacks and propagandists posing as journalists in the pro- and anti-capitalist info war. Which don't deserve any more sympathy than FOX and Murdoch do.
and also the America section. Just Venezuela, Venezuela, Venezuela and bit of other Latin American countries. Nothing about e.g. indymedia and occupy journalists getting beaten and jailed and harassed in US (and Europe and elsewhere). Neocolonialist and neoliberal propaganda site.

An ad hominem argument is something else. Is there some reason you wish to hide your opinion on other matters?

(9,137 posts)of my opinions and political positions. And as for certain wordings to describe those, which I assume you were referring to, I respect peer review jury decisions and try to learn from them to the best of my ability.
Now, back to the issue, the opinion of the source of your OP that grass roots indymedia reporters don't deserve same attention and journalistic protection as those they give their attention to, is quite relevant to how we view their opinions in general. As the saying goes, greatest lie of corporate media is not what they say, but what they leave unsaid.
And following your logic, the topics that you post and what you seem reluctant to discuss reflect your opinions and interests on other matters, such as neoliberal and neocolonialist structures and practices. Is there some reason you wish to hide your opinion on those matters?

(39,665 posts)Your complaint is like wondering why the boat show isn't showcasing new airplanes.
As for your hatred for the US government and all who support it -- surely you understand why your accusations of neocolonialism and whatever else ring with more context knowing of this?
And my own support of the US government -- specifically the Democrats serving within it -- shows what character flaw, exactly?
Let's cut the crap and go to the heart of the matter. Is support for capitalism as we know it (and the harm it does to world) a character flaw or product of sociocultural conditioning? I would not be talking with you if I believed it was character flaw.

(39,665 posts)Do you equate targeting journalists with some kind of glorious anticapitalism struggle?
from the motivations of targeters, now doesn't it?
But I'm not buying for a second your cover story that it's protecting journalists you are interested in and care about. Your motivations are revealed by who you choose to target with your crap.
