Gaslighters/Narcissists Can't Handle Rejection

U.S. Women’s National team co-captain Megan Rapinoe, when asked if she would accept Trump’s invitation to the White House if the team won the World Cup, said, “I’m not going to the f—— White House.” An appropriate response from a mature world leader would be for him to not respond. After all, the First Amendment protects the right of free speech, and as a world leader, it is understood the position comes with a great deal of public scrutiny. However, a gaslighter/narcissist cannot tolerate someone who rejects them and whom they feel is disloyal – even if the rejection is merited....

While one can argue that a later tweet by Trump said the team would be invited to the White House “win or lose,” it doesn’t erase the attacks on those he views as opponents. Gaslighters/narcissists will never tell you that they feel hurt by something you said. Instead, they will call you unpatriotic, ungrateful, selfish, et cetera. They go for character assassination. When gaslighters/narcissists are criticized, or if they perceive they have been rejected, it causes a “narcissistic injury.” This causes the gaslighter/narcissist to respond with “narcissistic rage.” This rage may not look like typical anger. In fact, many gaslighters/narcissists display narcissistic rage by being quietly demeaning and threatening, with smiles on their faces. This is especially the case if they are attacking someone in public. Public image is everything to gaslighters/narcissists, and the last thing they want is to look bad in front of others....
