I have had all I can take. I do not want to be around all of my Trump-supporting relatives on this day. I will not cause an argument or make a scene. I cannot in good conscience be social with people who actually cheer what is going on. I will stay in bed (wake me when it is over), lay on the couch or join Code Pink in DC. I haven't decided yet. But I will NOT be celebrating July 4th with this person in the white house. I am truly ashamed of this country.

2 years ago, I was eating breakfast next to one of the Guests of Honor from New Zealand who happens to be a Prosthetics designer at WETA Studios run by Peter Jackson. He was part of the team that did the Orcs and Urak Hai masks and such for the Lord of The Rings trilogy. Norman Cates.

I talked with Norman for about 30 minutes. Showed him a Costume project I did for a client's con, a Bilbo Baggins Coat and Vest. The buttons for the vest came from WETA Studios and were the same exact mold that made Martin Freeman's for the first 2 Hobbit films. He was amazed. He asked me for a business card, I gave him 2. 29. Tomorrow, July 1, is Canada Day.

I'll put up my Canadian flag because Trudeau is way hotter than Trump. I also have a Norwegian flag that I put up on May 17 because Norway is a nice country that treats its citizens decently (and no, Spanky, they don't want to come here). And I'll hang up my American flag on the 4th because Trump and the GOP don't fucking own it.

32. I will be celebrating July 4th in my community

The Community Band will play a concert before the annual parade starts. Wonderful parade - HS bands, neighborhood groups with their floats, etc., community groups, lots of candy to pass out to kids young and old, balloons, and yes some politicians.

There is an evening celebration party at the HS stadium - food, kids games, an aging rock/pop singer or group concert, local groups, etc. with pretty good fireworks with canned music after it gets dark. LOTS of people come.

But I won't be there this year. I will be at a nearby town - again with my community band. We will be performing before and during the town's fireworks. 1812 Overture during the fireworks. Should be a good show.

Yes there will a lot of tRump loving people but they won't be watching 45's narsisctic, megalomania mess in DC.

I'm not giving up on my country. And I won't let that horrible person in the White House ruin my love and joy of celebrating July 4th.

I said on another thread, that the 4th is about the ideals of the US, not what is going on right now. Being "proud" of your country without acknowledging its flaws is a childish right wing concept. I have never been proud or ashamed of the US. I am ashamed of some of the people and definitely of some of our history. I am also proud of our history and of many of our people. Binary thinking is for right wingers. They can't deal with the world and our country being a complex place so it has to be either or for them.

I know that things have been really difficult these past few years. Trump is the worst and he is definitely an embarrassment for the US. Patriotism is wanting your country to be better and doing something to make it so. What right wingers think is patriotism, wrapping themselves in the flag and screaming USA is Number One! is just immature people being immature.

If you can, celebrate what we want America to be, then on July 5th we go out and try to make it so.
