George Takei a vocal critic of the Trump administrations policy of separating migrant families at the border with Mexico is releasing a graphic novel about growing up in a U.S. internment camp.
In They Called Us Enemy, the Star Trek star revisits his haunting childhood in American concentration camps, as one of 120,000 Japanese-Americans imprisoned by the U.S. government during World War II, according to its publisher.
The graphic novel will offer a firsthand account of those years behind barbed wire, the terrors and small joys of childhood in the shadow of legalized racism, his mothers hard choices, his fathers tested faith in democracy, and the way those experiences planted the seeds for his astonishing future, a news release says.
