A White House visit for Raptors is a ‘hard no,’ Danny Green says

"SNIP......

For the first time in Donald Trump’s presidency, the NBA has a champion other than the Golden State Warriors, but don’t expect the Toronto Raptors’ position on visiting the White House during this administration to be much different from that of the Warriors.

“I just don’t think that we accept,” Raptors guard Danny Green said Saturday during Yahoo’s “Inside the Green Room,” speaking of his opposition to Trump’s policies and views. “And I try to respect everybody in every field that they do regardless of how crazy things are. But he makes it really hard. He makes it very, very tough to respect how he goes about things and does things.

“To put it politely, I think it’s a hard no.”

No NBA champion has visited the White House since the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, when Barack Obama’s second term was winding down. The Warriors, champions in 2017 and 2018, and Trump have had a contentious relationship, with Trump famously rescinding an invitation after Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and others said they would not accept if offered. The Warriors were stopped in their bid for a third straight championship by the Raptors this month.

4. The whole sport champs to the WH thing is just a sop to rich owners. It is brand enhancement.

Rich folk like Trump love to be stroked.

Maybe we should be giving attention to academic achievers to the same degree as sport heroes.

go on and on about how hard they worked to turn pro, how hard they worked as a team, and then they won. Canadian kids and adults are giddy this week. Some will be for their lifetimes. There are good values in sports. Intellectual excellence is often not shared so wide when there is success. We needs events in our shared world we can tell stories about. Sports is one of them. Who cares about the owners. As long as the players are getting well paid and the fans enjoy having a team, celebrate them when it is appropriate. It is connective tissue for people who are diverse and live as far apart from each other as canadians do. Academic excellence may affect more people in the end and change things for more people but sports fans get to participate in as
fans.

I would have otherwise shown full respect.

Seriously, being from Wisconsin, we love Canadian shows on tv (check out Corner Gas if you want to escape to a total non political breather) and we love to travel to our neighbor to the north.

I am so glad that they full out refuse to reward bad behavior on the part of the trump administration. With all that is going on in our country, I have 0 respect for anyone who has anything nice to say about trump and crew. Especially those who make a ton of money. And who are supposed to be good examples for the youth of the world.

I am making an effort to research all money I spend, food to entertainment. If they back trump at this stage of the game, they do not get my money. So to Toronto, congrats and good luck next year.

And to Canada, thank you. Keep your stick on the ice.

Why on the deity's green earth would they want to meet with the head of another country?
