US women's soccer games out-earned men's games over last three years: report

The U.S. women's national team's games have out-earned the men's team's matches over the last three years, according to financial reports from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) obtained by The Wall Street Journal amid a gender discrimination lawsuit.

Between 2016 and 2018, women’s team games generated about $50.8 million, compared with $49.9 million for the men, according to the audited statements.

“The event revenue from the [U.S. women's team] demonstrates the potential that can be realized when investment is made,” Becca Roux, executive director of the team's players association, told the Journal.

“While there is still a long way to go, I applaud U.S. Soccer, their partners, and our partners for the new marketing initiatives over the past couple of years," she added. "I hope it serves as a case study and example for other federations around the world to emulate.”

the USWNT is the number of men, young and old, in the stands cheering their hearts out, waving flags, and holding banners. My father, 92-years-old, said yesterday, "Yeah, I'm watching those women - they are incredible!"

My sports-loving, never watched soccer in his life Dad watched US vs. Chile yesterday

I will never forget the US vs. China match at the packed stadium in Los Angeles (1999). I still get chills, and a little teary-eyed, thinking about it.

to go watch your national team squander potential and embarrass itself on the international stage. USMNT has been a joke for some time, and I’ll be genuinely surprised if we make it to Qatar at all.
