https://www.ajc.com/news/local/man-mowing-vets-lawns-all-states-gets-some-help-from-delta/9vU0DbyY7z1ESkRLoNa3vK/Smith, 29, has been mowing lawns free of charge since 2015 when the then-college student came across an older gentleman struggling to cut his grass.
I pulled over and helped him out, and that night I decided I would start mowing lawns for free, he said. A month and a half later I reached my 100th lawn.
Obviously not a GOPer conservative type grifter.

(268,949 posts)This is wonderful.
Let me add - I was in the supermarket car park today unloading some goods. I had my two canvas bags, a bag of oranges and a five litre bottle of water. One of the young men who move trolleys came over and assisted. He was looking nothing - just being nice, complete with a smile. I let him know how much I appreciated it and insisted on tipping him.

(6,699 posts)A long story, but we broke down on our trip to central Mexico in a little town of Cuba, New Mexico. Our cam sensor went out in my pickup. Within five minutes, I had people stopping to see if they could help. They looked under the hood, climbed under the truck, and eventually hooked up my trailer and took it across the street to the shop that would be open the following morning..Monday.
Triple A would tow my truck, but not my trailer. They then drove my wife, dog and I to the motel, a few miles down the road. The following morning they had gotten the replacement part, called me at our motel room, picked us up, and brought us back down the road to get back in our repaired pickup, and we headed on our way down the road to Albuquerque.
They came out of nowhere. Didnt do it for a dime, but helped us out because they were decent, good people, and they saw we needed a helping hand. A fair price of around $200 had us back on the road. Reinstalled my faith in my fellow man.
This all happened on a reservation. The young man who ran us back and forth to the motel had a little 7-8 year old daughter in the van with him. We are on our way back down to Mexico again, and I have two Xerox boxes of picture books and paper back books from my 3rd grade classroom that Im bringing to give to his daughter to share with her family and friends. Returning a favor...in my way.

(22,114 posts)representatives in Congress (US and state houses), since they act so antisocial.
And by the way, what a great way to visit that part of the US, with so many great people (one I wouldn't plan it that way, to have one's vehicle break down, but in your case, it sure worked out!).
Sometimes it is the unexpected things in life that are the best experiences in our lives.
What a nice story - thanks for sharing it with DU and I. Take care.
