Alec Baldwin's 'SNL' departure is a win for Trump

CNN

Two recent developments indicate that President Donald Trump might have won key battles in his long-fought war against comedy. The most recent example involves one of Trump's frequent targets, Alec Baldwin, who announced this week he's planning to hang up his orange wig and no longer play Trump on "Saturday Night Live." The Emmy-winning actor told USA Today, "I can't imagine I would do it again. I just can't."

Baldwin gave two reasons for leaving the show. One was spending more time with his family. But the other reason makes me wonder if Trump helped drive Baldwin from the role. Baldwin shared that "all these people were attacking me," saying things like, "Your impression sucks and you suck. Please go away." The actor apparently had enough, explaining, "I thought to myself: 'I really don't have a lot invested in my Trump impersonation, so please find someone and convince Lorne [Michaels] to replace me.' "

5. The guy from the president show on comedy channel would be a better replacement

Anthony Atamanuik is his name. I kept those shows on my DVR in case they are banned.

He doesn't look a bit like Trump without the makeup.

4. There are others who can fill Alec Baldwins shoes. This is no win for Trump...

Though I can't blame Baldwin for wanting to stop. Yuck.

Some of the competing "Trump" impersonators have a much harder edge, so Don, the Con better be careful for what he asks.

7. Oh they will get someone new. SNL has made fun of every president since Nixon.

Why would they stop just because of the giant man baby in the White House now?

9. It could be...

… a case of Lucille Ball-itus… for 25 years, Lucy told CBS she just couldn't do another year... somehow, they managed to lure her back!

10. I sure hope SNL finds someone ASAP.

Alec is near perfect at the job but I'm SURE there are others out there who would do a slam-bang job, too. Maybe a professional actor? Maybe an Amateur?

SNL could run an online video contest and give an aspiring actor a kick-start. They don't need to be a regular cast member - just a fantastic impersonator.

But ya, maybe he would rather have the fan base of trump like him.

bet she would really throw herself into it.
And when the baby cried, she wouldn't back down - she'd just spank him harder.

30. I think he would be great as well.

He was a very talented impressionist. If that's what you call them. I know he's not a painter, but what ever that skill is at mimicking people, he's very good at it.

and thus, he's wisely chosen to move on.

Trump didn't win anything. Fresh blood will fill Baldwin's shoes.

27. SNL could have an animatronic 'empty suit' made to play tRump.

With pretty much any good voice actor doing the speaking.

Karma - have the puppet be played by ... a puppet.

28. 7 million Americans watch SNL.

That means more than 320 million don’t. Let’s not exaggerate the importance of a late night comedy show that’s been on life support for three decades.

36. CNN is making too big a deal about this, IMO.

AB gets on Trumpers' nerves, therefore the spin has to be the reverse.

It's a five minute comedic role, not a testimony of folding to donald .
