The leader of La Luz del Mundo—a Mexican church that claims to have more than one million followers around the world—has been charged with a string of child sex crimes in Los Angeles. According to The New York Times, the allegations against Naasón Joaquín García include that he forced children to have sex and made them pose naked for photos. He was reportedly arrested Monday at Los Angeles International Airport—two others affiliated with the church were also arrested, and authorities are looking for a fourth person. Prosecutors allege García has four victims, including three children. The charges include rape and human trafficking. “Crimes like those alleged in this complaint have no place in our society. Period,” said Attorney General Xavier Becerra of California. “We must not turn a blind eye to sexual violence and trafficking in our state.” García, 50, is considered by La Luz del Mundo to be an apostle of Jesus Christ.

Between child-abusing priests from the RCC, Southern Baptist ministers, and now this creep, parents probably should think twice about trusting their children to be at church without their parents.

Even at my quiet little Presbyterian church in a California small town back in the early 60s, our youth minister was caught getting orally serviced by a 14-year-old in a Sunday School room. The girl was a friend of mine, very shy, and usually pretty withdrawn and quiet. She and her family moved away from that town not long afterward.

Was he arrested? He was not. He was fired, and showed up at another church just 25 miles away, again serving as a youth pastor. I saw him there, myself, while visiting that church with our youth choir. I alerted a couple of adults at that church about his prior behavior, and he got fired again. Where he went from there, I don't know.

Caution is needed if you are a parent. Truly it is.
