House Dems to hold Barr, Ross in contempt over census question

House Dems to hold Barr, Ross in contempt over census question
The Oversight Committee wants key documents by Thursday.

By ANDREW DESIDERIO 06/03/2019 04:24 PM EDT

The House Oversight and Reform Committee is moving to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for defying the panel’s subpoena for information about efforts to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.

“Unfortunately, your actions are part of a pattern,” Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) wrote to Barr and Ross in separate letters. “The Trump administration has been engaged in one of the most unprecedented cover-ups since Watergate, extending from the White House to multiple federal agencies and departments of the government and across numerous investigations.”

Cummings said he would consider postponing the contempt votes if Barr and Ross turn over the requested documents by Thursday, June 6.

It sounds like you're really not interested in them doing anything but, instead, just want to complain and criticize.

Or, maybe I'm wrong and you have a better idea of how to proceed. What exactly do you think they should be doing in this instance that they're not doing that will more quickly and effectively achieve the result you want?

And how do you define "impeachment proceedings"? What hearings would have been held? What witnesses would have testified? What documents would have been turned over?

And how do you propose the Democrats could have started impeachment proceedings without enough votes to authorize the inquiry?

We can't get grand jury info with regular oversight hearings, as the holding in McKeever v. Barr makes clear.

Over 60 House members--including half the Democrats on Judiciary--favor starting an impeachment inquiry.

We would quickly have over 200 if Pelosi came out in favor of impeachment. Dem members are waiting for her signal.

Who arrests the Attorney General? Capital Police are going to walk in to the Justice Dept.? Does he stay behind bars as the case is appealed? Chelsea Manning was remanded for not testifying. Where is Rodger Stone? Why is it just US that are compelled to not break the law, that they keep contorting?
How high can you stack a WHouse of cards?
Where have all the soldiers gone? Who sent them to hell on earth, and for what reason?

step is one of many also intended to eliminate conservative justice criticisms before they're made. Give them no rationalizations to hide corrupt decisions behind.
